Monmouth's Bashir Honored As Oscar Robertson National Player Of The Week By USBWA

RICHMOND, Va. (November 19, 2024) – Monmouth sophomore guard
Abdi Bashir, Jr. has been honored as one of five Oscar Robertson National Men’s Basketball Players of the Week by the USBWA (U.S. Basketball Writers Association).
Bashir averaged 31.5 points and 3.0 rebounds in Monmouth’s road games at Northern Illinois and #24 Rutgers last week. The sophomore guard scored a career-high 25 points and added five rebounds, two assists and two steals at NIU. He shattered the scoring mark three days later, pouring in 38 points on 10-of-17 shooting from 3-point range against Rutgers. The 10 treys were a program record, the second-most in CAA history and the second-most ever at Jersey Mike’s Arena.
Joining Bashir as National Player of the Week honorees were Jaron Pierre of Jacksonville State, Maxine Raynaud of Stanford, John Tonje of Wisconsin and Sonny Wilson of Toledo.
