PHILADELPHIA Pa. (Nov. 7, 2024) – Drexel takes on Monmouth, and Northeastern plays Delaware in the semifinals of the 2024 CAA Field Hockey Championship, which begins on Friday from Drexel.
Drexel is the No. 1 seed in the Championship and will face No. 4 Monmouth on Friday, Nov. 8, at 12 p.m. from its home field. Northeastern earned the No. 2 seed and will take on No. 3 Delaware at 3 p.m. in Philadelphia.
Drexel and Monmouth met two weeks into the regular season when the Dragons defeated the then No. 20 Hawks 2-1. The win marked Drexel’s third consecutive season with a victory over a ranked opponent. Drexel’s offense is highlighted by CAA Player of the Year Valentine Van Hellemont, who leads the conference with 11 goals. CAA Defender of the Year Pien Elsen anchors a defense that has allowed the least goals in the conference. Monmouth counters with the CAA Rookie of the Year Milla Frye, who led freshmen in the conference in scoring with eight.
Northeastern’s last meeting with Delaware came on Oct. 18, when the Huskies won 2-1. The Huskies enter the matchup on a nine-game win streak across all competitions. Six Northeastern players have tallied 10 or more points this season, including conference leader Lauren Rowe. Delaware’s Cecile Van Eijck looks to slow down Northeastern’s attack in goal, ranking first in the CAA in shutouts (5, and second in goals-against average with 1.217 through 18 games.
The winners of Friday’s games will compete for the CAA title and automatic qualifier to the NCAA Field Hockey Championship on Sunday, Nov. 10, at 12 p.m.
