PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (Nov. 10, 2024) – Delaware and Monmouth are set to face off for the 12th time in program history and first with hardware on the line. The Blue Hens (10-9) and Hawks (12-6) will duke it out in the CAA Field Hockey Championship game on Sunday afternoon at 12 p.m. from Philadelphia, Pa. on Buckley Field.
The meeting marks the first time a third and fourth seed will meet in the Championship since 2004 after No.4 Monmouth defeated No.1 Drexel 2-1 and No.3 Delaware bested No.2 Northeastern 3-1 in Friday’s semifinals.
Delaware heads back to the CAA Championship game for the 11th time in the last 12 years, after a come-from-behind win over the Huskies. Four Blue Hens were named to an all-conference team, with All-CAA Second Teamer
Janne Stoetzer leading the way offensively for Delaware with a team-high five goals. At the back, the Blue Hens sit inside the top 15 in the nation in defensive saves, with All-CAA Second Team selection
Cameron Medinger posting a conference-high six.
Monmouth earns a spot in the CAA Championship game for the second-straight season following a win over top-seeded Drexel. CAA Rookie of the Year
Milla Frye drew the game level for the Hawks in the early stages of the second half before
Claire Campen netted the game-winner seven minutes later. Frye’s ninth tally of the season leads all freshmen in the conference. Scoring 13 goals in the last two games, the Hawks currently sit sixth in the nation in scoring average (3.06), thanks largely in part to 18 goals in their last three games.
