CAA Indoor Track & Field Weekly Awards – Dec. 10

RICHMOND, Va. (Dec. 10, 2024) – The CAA has announced its first indoor track and field weekly awards for the 2024-25 season. Monmouth had two recipients with senior Yasmeen Tinsley being recognized as the women’s track athlete of the week, and David Strong receiving men’s field athlete of the week. Elon senior Jazlyn Jefferson was honored as the women’s field athlete of the week and North Carolina A&T junior Jason Holmes claimed men’s track athlete of the week accolades.
 
WOMEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Yasmeen Tinsley, Monmouth
Senior | Jumps/Hurdles | Arlington, VA/ Washington Liberty High School
Tinsley opened her season in memorable fashion at the Penn Opener, winning the 60-meter hurdles in 8.39s. In the 300-meter dash, the senior posted a time of 38.24, resetting Monmouth’s program record. Tinsley’s performances rank 12th best nationally for both events.
 
WOMEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Jazlyn Jefferson, Elon
Senior | Sprints | Jarratt, Va. / Greenville County
Jefferson earned a fifth-place finish in the triple jump with one of the top distances in the nation. The Virginia native leaped 12.07m ( 39”7’) at the Liberty Kickoff on Friday, ranking 30th in the country, and first in the CAA by more than six inches. The mark ranks fourth in Elon program history.
 
MEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Jason Holmes, North Carolina A&T
Junior | Sprints/Hurdles | Baltimore, MD / Calvert Hall College High School
Holmes recorded a pair of first-place finishes at the Clemson opener with performances that are the nation’s best this season. The junior from Baltimore ran a blistering 20.94s in the 200m, and crossed the line in 7.64s in the 60m hurdles.
 
MEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
David Strong, Monmouth
Senior | Jumps/Hurdles | La Plata, MD /  La Plata High School
Strong set Monmouth’s heptathlon record at the Penn Opener, recording personal bests in six of the seven events. Finishing first in the event with a 5,235 points, the senior compiled the 10th highest score on the Division I leaderboard. The performance was highlighted by a 7.17m long jump that is the best mark in the CAA.
