HUSKIES OFF TO BEST START SINCE 1985-86
Northeastern is off to its best start (8-3) since 1985-86 after beating Old Dominion, 75-71, last Sunday to extend its winning streak to three. The Huskies lead the CAA in FG percentage (48.0%) and have shot better than 50% from the floor in six of their 10 contests. Guard Rashad King ranks among the CAA’s top 10 in scoring (17.6 ppg), rebounding (6.7 rpg) and assists (4.2 apg).
PHOENIX ARE RISING
Elon (7-3) is on a four-game winning streak after cruising past Virginia Lynchburg last Saturday. The Phoenix rank 8th nationally in FG percentage defense (36.6%) and have held six of 10 foes under 36% shooting. Elon’s 7-3 start is its best since 2015-16 and the Phoenix top all CAA squads in the latest NCAA NET ratings at No. 89.
CHARLESTON RALLIES PAST ST. JOE’S
Charleston improved to 7-2 and ran its winning streak to three following a 78-75 victory at Saint Joseph’s last Tuesday. The Cougars rallied from an 11-point second-half deficit as AJ Smith scored 12 of his season-high 18 points after halftime.
HOFSTRA’S STREAK STOPPER
Hofstra rolled over Norfolk State, 80-67, last Monday, ending the Spartans’ 18-game home court winning streak, which was the 8th-longest in the nation. It was the Pride’s fifth win away from home.
LOOKING AHEAD
There are several big non-conference tests on the weekend schedule. On Saturday, Drexel hosts Penn State at Wells Fargo Center and North Carolina A&T visits Arkansas. On Sunday, William & Mary goes to VCU and Charleston faces Oregon State in the first round of the Diamond Head Classic in Hawaii.
Campbell
• Nolan Dorsey scored a career-high 19 points in a win at The Citadel and topped it with 21 points at Morgan State. He hit three treys in each game.
• Terren Frank had 13 points at The Citadel, which was his 5th double-digit outing, and added 9 rebounds and 5 assists.
• The 28-point win at The Citadel was the largest non-conference victory in the program’s D-1 history.
Charleston
•AJ Smith came off the bench to score a season-high 18 points in a road win at Saint Joseph’s last Tuesday. He was 5-of-6 from the floor in the final five minutes as CofC rallied from an 11-point deficit.
• Ante Brzovic added 17 points at SJU and eclipsed 1,500 points for his career. Brzovic tallied double figures for the 8th time in nine games.
• CJ Fulton tied his career high with 9 assists at SJU and added four steals.
Delaware
•Erik Timko scored a team-high 17 points as Delaware cruised past Chestnut Hill last Tuesday. It was his fourth double-digit effort in the past five games.
•Delaware was 13-of-15 at the FT line against Chestnut Hill and is shooting 79.1% from the stripe for the year, which ranks 2nd in the CAA and 18th nationally.
•Niels Lane added 13 points, 7 rebounds and a career-high 6 assists in the win.
Drexel
•Kobe MaGee scored a team-high 17 points in a road win at UAlbany last Saturday. He’s tallied double digits in all 11 games and leads DU with 15.9 ppg.
•Jason Drake added 14 points on 5-of-6 FG shooting at UAlbany. It was his most points since Nov. 22.
•Drexel shot a season-best 61% from the floor at UA. The Dragons have shot over 50% in four of the last six games.
Elon
• TJ Simpkins had a team-high 16 points in 15 minutes as Elon had six double-digit scorers vs. Va. Lynchburg on Saturday. It was his 8th game in double figures.
• Kendall Campbell added 12 points on 6-of-8 FG shooting and five rebounds vs. VUL. He entered the game with three points for the season.
• Elon set a school record with 68 rebounds against VUL, including 32 on the offensive end that led to 27 points.
Hampton
•Kyrese Mullen came off the bench to score a season-high 22 points and grab a team-best 8 rebounds in a win over The Apprentice School last Tuesday. It was his first double-digit effort since Nov. 24.
•Daniel Johnson hit three treys and added 15 points in his first start vs. Apprentice.
•Hampton got 44 points from reserves against Apprentice. The Pirates rank 4th nationally in bench scoring (40.0 ppg).
Hofstra
• Jean Aranguren averaged 17.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists in two games last week. He had 16 points and 14 boards against Temple on Sunday.
• Cruz Davis hit 5-of-6 from three and scored 20 points in an 80-67 win at Norfolk State on Monday. It was his fourth 20+ point outing in the past eight games.
• Hofstra snapped Norfolk State’s 18-game home court winning streak.
Monmouth
• Abdi Bashir, Jr. hit 5-of-10 threes and scored a team-high 26 points in a close loss at Princeton last Tuesday. It was his 7th game with 20+ points and 8th with at least 3 treys. Bashir leads the CAA in scoring with 21.1 ppg.
• Madison Durr added 14 points at Princeton, which were his most since Nov. 15.
• Cornelius Robinson, Jr. made a career-high four steals at Princeton.
North Carolina A&T
• Jahnathan Lamothe posted back-to-back double-doubles last week with 14 points and 11 rebounds at Virginia Tech and 11 points and 12 boards at Liberty.
• Landon Glasper scored a team-high 19 points at VT and followed with 20 points at LU. He has tallied double figures in all 10 games he’s played this season.
• Nikolaos Chitikoudis is averaging 11.8 ppg and 9.5 rpg over the past 4 games.
UNCW
• Khamari McGriff poured in a career-high 34 points at Howard. He hit his first 14 FG attempts before finishing 14-of-16. It was the 10th-best outing in UNCW history.
• Sean Moore added 13 points at Howard. He’s averaging 13.5 ppg on 55% FG shooting over the past two games.
• Harlan Obioha chipped in 12 points off the bench for the third time in the past four games.
Northeastern
•Rashad King scored a team-high 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds in a 75-71 win at Old Dominion on Sunday. It was the fourth 20+-point effort of the year for King, who ranks in the top 8 in the CAA in scoring, rebounding and assists.
•LA Pratt added 15 points and six rebounds at ODU. It was his third double-digit effort in the past five games.
•NU pulled down a season-high 46 rebounds at ODU.
Stony Brook
•CJ Luster hit 6-of-9 threes and scored a team-high 20 points in a win at Rider last Saturday. It was the third 20+-point effort for Luster, who is averaging 14.1 ppg and shooting 43.7% from three.
•Andre Snoddy posted his 2nd double-double in the past 3 games with 10 points and a season-high 12 boards at RU.
•Stony Brook made a season-best 13 treys at Rider on 52% shooting (13-25).
Towson
• Nendah Tarke came off the bench to score a team-high 10 points in a loss at Duquesne last Saturday. It was his fifth double-digit outing of the season.
• Towson shot a season-best 85.7% (12-14) at the FT line vs. Duquesne, but made a season-low 28.3% from the floor.
• Tomiwa Sulaiman added 8 points in 15 minutes off the bench vs. Duquesne. He was 2-for-2 from 3-point range.
William & Mary
• W&M hosts Richmond on Wednesday after being off since Dec. 4 due to exams. The Tribe is 3-0 at home this season.
• Noah Collier ranks 13th nationally in FG percentage (65.4%) and tops the Tribe in scoring (13.8 ppg). He’s scored double digits in five of his last six games.
• W&M ranks 8th nationally with 11.3 threes made per game. The Tribe has hit at least nine treys in 7 of 10 games.
