RICHMOND, Va. (Dec. 2, 2024) – A busy week of tournaments and non-conference matchups brings another edition of the #CAAHoops WBB Notebook.
SCHEDULE AND RESULTS
Power Four Slayers
With the shot clock winding down, Tyra Kennedy got a running jumper off just before the buzzer as
Hampton defeated SEC opponent Georgia 76-74 in overtime. “That’s the biggest shot of her career,” said Head Coach Tamisha Augustin. “Sometimes it takes some time for that confidence, and she let it fly at the right time.” Not only is it the first CAA victory over a Power Four opponent this season, but it marks the first win for Hampton over a Power Four opponent since defeating Alabama on Nov.9, 2019. ”They were due for this game. They really had buy-in, and they are starting to understand how hard and detailed you have to be at getting things done,” Augustin said. “Forcing 32 turnovers is a great defensive effort. We knew they were going to hurt us on the boards, and we had some big shots from different players. We were all connected as a unit today and I am glad they are able to experience this feeling.”
First Tally in the Win Column
Monmouth tallied its first win of the season on Nov. 26, 59-50 over Saint Peter’s. The victory not only marked the Hawks’ first tally in the win column but also the first of Head Coach Cait Wetmore’s tenure in West Long Branch. “I am really proud of this team. It hasn’t been easy, but the players bought in this whole time. Sometimes that can waver when you hit a hard road, but they just haven’t given up. They maintained their great culture and chemistry, and I am really proud of them for sticking to that,” said Wetmore. Damaris Rodriguez led the way for the Hawks with a season-high 27 points, en route to her 2,000th career point.
Towson competed in the Puerto Rico Classic, securing a 68-57 victory over Youngstown State. After a back and fourth first half, Towson outscored YSU 22-8 in the third quarter to take over. Jordan Wakefield had a season-high 17 points on 5-6 shooting, while CAA Rookie of the Week Khady Leye had a career-high 19 points in the matchup. Thirty-six of the Tiger’s 68 points came from the bench.
