SCHEDULE AND RESULTS

The Hawks Are Soaring

The Hawks Are Soaring
After starting the season 0-6, Monmouth pieced together a 3-0 homestand off the back of many noteworthy performances. Helping earn Cait Wetmore her first win as a head coach, Damaris Rodriguez’s 27 points against St. Peter’s propelled the Hawks to their first win. After a win against Lafayette, Monmouth continued its home stint defeating Rider, 52-36. The 36 points allowed were the fewest the Hawks have allowed since 2015, while Monmouth also grabbed a season-high 49 rebounds. ”I am proud that this team has stuck to it and has stuck together,” said Wetmore. “They are applying all the things we have worked on in practice and the lessons we took away from our first six games. We have been working on our defense a lot, and I was proud with the defensive effort tonight.”

Defensive Masterclass

Delaware held it down defensively to earn its third win of the season over Delaware State. Winning 73-26, the points allowed were the fourth fewest in program history. The Blue Hens allowed two points in the first quarter, marking the fewest in school history, and 10 points against in the first half tied the lowest in the history of the Bob Carpenter Center for a women’s game, with the last coming on Feb. 3, 2017, against UNCW. Altogether, Delaware held its opponent under 30 points for the first time since Jan. 10, 2013, when it allowed 27 points against George Mason.

Growth of the Game
Although still early in the season, the CAA has seen incredible growth in attendance at women’s basketball competitions. Towson set a school record for most fans in attendance with 3,590 against UMBC, while North Carolina A&T played in front of 3,593 when North Carolina came to Greensboro. Two schools already are averaging over 2,000 fans regularly (NC A&T (2590) and Delaware (2,267), while eight schools are averaging more than 1,000 fans each game compared to last year’s four.
