Julieta Honrubia and
Maryia Hrynashka were named the Women’s Doubles Team of the Week.
CAA Men’s Tennis Player of the Week
Gabe Hurtado, Sr., UNCW (Bogota, Colombia)
Hurtado recorded a pair of wins during UNCW’s three-match road swing last weekend. The senior provided the clinching point in a 4-3 triumph at Tulane, edging Luc Hoeijmans, 6-1, 6-7, 6-3 at No. 4 singles. He followed with a 7-6 (4), 6-2 win over LSU’s Rudy Ceccon in the Seahawks’ narrow 4-3 loss to the SEC’s Tigers. Hurtado also split sets in his match at South Alabama before the contest was halted.
CAA Men’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
Juan Sengariz, Jr., Elon (Santander, Spain)
Ben Zipay, Sr., Elon (Osprey, Fla.)
Sengariz and Zipay posted a victory at No. 3 doubles in Elon’s setback at 25
th-ranked North Carolina. The Phoenix duo defeated the Tar Heels’ Peter Murphy and Patrick Schoen, 6-3, for their first win of the season.
CAA Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Hedda Gurholt, Jr., William & Mary (Osl0, Norway)
Gurholt registered the first nationally ranked win of her career, beating 79
th-ranked Selma Cadar of Maryland, 6-2, 7-5, in William & Mary’s narrow 4-3 loss to the Terps. It was the sixth victory in a row for Gurholt, who improved to 11-2 overall for the year. She and partner Ine Stange also clinched the doubles point for the Tribe against Maryland.
CAA Women’s Tennis Double Team of the Week
Julieta Honrubia, Sr., Delaware (Cuenca, Spain)
Maryia Hrynashka, So., Delaware (Rancho Cordova, Calif.)
Honrubia and Hrynashka went 2-0 at No. 3 doubles last week as Delaware dropped a pair of close 4-3 road matches at Liberty and ACC foe Virginia Tech. The Blue Hens’ duo rolled past LU’s Maria Turchetto and Marina Davtyan, 6-1, to help UD pick up the doubles point vs. the Flames. They followed with a 7-6 (3) triumph over Virginia Tech’s Charlotte Cartledge and Ozlem Uslu. Hrynashka also won both of her matches at No. 4 singles over the weekend.
