WASHINGTON (Feb. 16, 2024) – Two Stony Brook women's lacrosse student-athletes -
Kailyn Hart and
Ellie Masera - have been named to the 2024 Tewaaraton Award Watch List, as the initial 50-player list was announced Friday night.
The initial watch list marks 50 of the best women's lacrosse players in the country, and the list will see two rounds of additions as the season continues, with up to 75 players comprising the list in total.
Hart was named to the Watch List for the third consecutive season after scoring 55 goals and adding 23 assists to lead CAA attackers a season ago. She was named a Preseason Honorable Mention All-American by USA Lacrosse and ILWomen this year along with a Preseason All-CAA distinction.
Masera makes her third consecutive appearance on the list, having been named a Tewaaraton nominee the last two years. She led all Division I midfielders a season ago with 3.79 goals per game and 5.0 points per game, totaling 71 goals, 95 assists and 120 draw controls in 2023. Masera, the CAA Preseason Player of the Year for 2024, was also a USA Lacrosse First Team All-American and an ILWomen Second Team All-American in preseason honors.
The list will be narrowed down to 25 nominees in April and five finalists in May before the Tewaaraton Award winner is picked following the season. In program history, eight different student-athletes have been named nominees and Kylie Ohlmiller was twice named a finalist. Each of the nominee and finalist selections have come under head coach Joe Spallina.
