Corinne Bednarik, Drexel
Fifth Year | Attack/Midfield | Glenmoore, Pa. / Downingtown West
Bednarik’s offensive tear to begin 2024 continued last week with 14 points (seven goals, seven assists) in a week with a 15-3 win over Wagner and 11-8 setback at No. 14 Penn. The fifth year from Pennsylvania tallied four goals and four assists in the win over the Seahawks before a three-goal, three-assist performance against the Quakers. Bednarik added six draw controls on the week and heads into the week second in the nation with 25 total points.
CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Alex Finn, Stony Brook
Graduate Student | Attack | Westwood, Mass. / Westwood
Finn notched two goals and seven assists in Stony Brook’s 18-11 win over Dartmouth to open the season Sunday. The grad transfer’s seven assists tied for fifth in a game in CAA history and was the first seven-assist performance by a Stony Brook player since the 2021 NCAA Tournament. Four of Finn’s seven assists were to Ellie Masera, who scored eight goals on the day. Finn’s seven assists are tied for the most in a game nationally this season.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Madison Hranicka, Delaware
Graduate Student | Defense | Mendham, N.J. / West Morris Mendham
Hranicka repeats as a CAA weekly award winner with two more impressive performances to help Delaware to its best start in over two decades. The grad student from New Jersey totaled seven ground balls and seven caused turnovers in wins over UMBC and Mount St. Mary’s that propelled the Blue Hens to their first 3-0 start since 2000. Hranicka did most of her damage against the Mountaineers on Saturday with six ground balls and five caused turnovers.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Ana Lee Vandiver, Elon
Redshirt Freshman | Attack | Baltimore, Md. / McDonogh
Vandiver’s first career start was a memorable one, as her seven-point performance powered Elon to its largest comeback in program history. The attacker from Baltimore scored six times as the Phoenix came back from five goals down to win 12-11 at VCU. Elon trailed 6-1 in the second quarter before Vandiver contributed three goals to a six-goal surge to put the Phoenix in front at halftime. Vandiver’s sixth goal put Elon in front 12-9 and proved to be the difference.
