Juan Sengariz received CAA Men’s Tennis Player of the Week honors, while Delaware grad student
Slade Coetzee was selected as the CAA Women’s Tennis Player of the Week. William & Mary’s
Satchel Benn and
Oliver Hague were named the Men’s Doubles Team of the Week and Elon’s
Madison Cordisco and
Mariana Reding were chosen as the Women’s Doubles Team of the Week.
CAA Men’s Tennis Player of the Week
Juan Sengariz, Jr., Elon (Santander, Spain)
Sengariz registered a perfect 3-0 mark in singles to help Elon earn team victories over South Carolina State (7-0), CAA foe Campbell (6-1) and UNC Asheville (6-1) last week. Playing at the No. 4 position, the junior cruised past SCSU’s Vanja Petrov, 6-0, 6-2 and followed with a 6-2, 6-3 triumph over Campbell’s Tomas Balazi. He capped his week by outlasting UNCA’s Tarek Erlewein, 5-7, 6-0, 14-12, as Elon snapped the Bulldogs’ seven-match winning streak.
CAA Men’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
Satchel Benn, Gr., William & Mary (Wellington, New Zealand)
Oliver Hague, Fr., William & Mary (Manchester, England)
Benn and Hague tallied a 3-0 record at No. 2 doubles as William & Mary went 2-1 at the ECAC Championships. The Tribe tandem started the weekend with a 6-4 victory against Yale’s Jim Ji and Eric Li. They followed with a 6-2 win over Brown’s Tim Dzhurinskiy and Sam Feldman to help W&M claim the doubles point in a 4-0 team triumph. Benn and Hague were part of a crucial doubles point win vs. Dartmouth, beating Ca Guerrero Alvarez and Hikaru Takeda, 6-3, as W&M pulled out a 4-3 team victory.
CAA Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Slade Coetzee, Gr., Delaware (Miami Beach, Fla.)
Coetzee went 2-0 at No. 1 singles and added a doubles victory as Delaware knocked off Big Ten foe Penn State (4-2) and Bucknell (7-0) last weekend. After clinching the doubles point with a 7-5 win at No. 3 doubles vs. PSU, Coetzee rolled over the Nittany Lions’ Olivia Dorner, 6-3, 6-0. She capped her weekend by defeating Bucknell’s Whitney King, 7-5, 6-1.
CAA Women’s Tennis Double Team of the Week
Madison Cordisco, So., Elon (Pittsburgh, Pa.)
Mariana Reding, Fr., Elon (Leon, Mexico)
Cordisco and Reding recorded a 2-0 mark at No. 2 doubles as Elon beat Gardner-Webb (6-1) and Shaw (7-0) last week. The duo battled past Gardner-Webb’s Katie Watts and Milicia Prokic, 7-5, and followed with a 6-3 triumph against Shaw’s Anja Antonijevic and Marija Ristanovic. Cordisco and Reding, who also combined for a 3-0 singles record last week, have won four straight doubles matches.
