CAA Indoor Track & Field Weekly Awards – Feb. 20

RICHMOND, Va. (Feb. 20, 2024) – The CAA has announced its final indoor track and field weekly awards for the 2023-24 season. For the women, William & Mary junior Emily Ervin was named CAA Track Athlete of the Week, and Charleston graduate student Luzy Lieger earned CAA Field Athlete of the Week accolades. On the men’s side, Northeastern graduate student Kerem Ayhan received CAA Track Athlete of the Week honors, and William & Mary sophomore Jason Nwosu was recognized as CAA Field Athlete of the Week. 
 
WOMEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Emily Ervin, William & Mary
Junior | Sprints | Overland Park, Kan. / Blue Valley Southwest
Ervin concluded the regular season with a victory in the 200m at the Navy Select. The junior ran a season-best time of 24.55 to win the event. The mark ranks top-10 in the conference this season. 
 
WOMEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Luzy Lieger, Charleston
Graduate | Pole Vault | Scherwin, Germany / Sportsgymnasium
Lieger broke the Charleston and indoor conference record in the pole vault at the USC Indoor Open. The graduate student recorded a clearance of 4.06m (13-03.75) to place fourth in the competition at South Carolina. Lieger becomes the second CAA student-athlete to clear 4.00m indoors and will be the top seed to defend her title at the CAA Championships this week. 
 
MEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Kerem Ayhan, Northeastern
Graduate | Distance | Hackettstown, N.J. / Blair Academy 
Ayhan finished the regular season with a personal record in the 800m at the Boston University DMR Challenge. The graduate student ran 1:47.86 to place fourth overall and second among collegiate competitors at the event. The time ranks second in the conference and 25th in the NCAA this season. 
 
MEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Jason Nwosu, William & Mary
Sophomore | Throws | Franklinville, N.J. / Delsea Regional 
Nwosu recorded a personal-best mark in the weight throw at the Navy Select to conclude the regular season. The sophomore thrower finished third in the event with a mark of 18.65m (61-02.25), which ranks third in the CAA this season. In addition, he earned a third-place finish in the shot put, recording a mark of 15.58m (51-01.50).
