Reece Falck received CAA Men’s Tennis Player of the Week honors, while Delaware grad student
Slade Coetzee was chosen as the CAA Women’s Tennis Player of the Week. UNCW’s
Gabe Hurtado and
Trey Mallory were named the Men’s Doubles Team of the Week and William & Mary’s
Hedda Gurholt and
Ine Stange were honored as the Women’s Doubles Team of the Week.
CAA Men’s Tennis Player of the Week
Reece Falck, Sr., UNCW (Christchurch, New Zealand)
Falck was unbeaten in singles during UNCW’s matches against Wichita State (4-0), New Mexico (2-4) and William & Mary (4-0) last week. Playing at No. 2 vs. Wichita, he clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Alejandro Jacome. The senior competed at No. 3 vs. W&M and earned a 6-2, 6-4 triumph over Konstantino Raptis. He was also leading UNM’s Arthur Bellegy, 4-6, 7-6 (6), 2-1 when the match was halted. Falck and partner Harold Huens were 2-1 at No. 1 doubles as well last week.
CAA Men’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
Gabe Hurtado, Sr., UNCW (Bogota, Colombia)
Trey Mallory, Jr., UNCW (Southampton, Bermuda)
Hurtado and Mallory posted a 3-0 mark at No. 3 doubles in UNCW’s matches against Wichita State (4-0), New Mexico (2-4) and CAA foe William & Mary (4-0). The Seahawks’ duo blanked Wichita’s Alejandro Jacome and Marcelo Sepulveda, 6-0, before edging UNM’s Ryoma Matsushita and Avery Tallakson, 7-5, to clinch the doubles point vs. the Lobos. They also clinched the doubles point against the Tribe by defeating Alexandre Leblanc and Nikita Bortnichek, 6-4. Hurtado and Mallory have won six straight matches.
CAA Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Slade Coetzee, Gr., Delaware (Miami Beach, Fla.)
Coetzee went 3-0 at No. 1 singles and added a pair of double victories as Delaware defeated CAA foes Hofstra (6-1) and Stony Brook (7-0) and A-10 opponent Richmond (4-3) last week. The grad student beat Hofstra’s Lea Forste-Dinell, 6-3, 6-1, downed Stony Brook’s Mia Palladino, 6-3, 7-5, and got past Richmond’s Andrea Campodonico, 6-2, 6-4. In doubles, Coetzee picked up wins at No. 1 against SBU and No. 2 vs. Hofstra.
CAA Women’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
Hedda Gurholt, Jr., William & Mary (Oslo, Norway)
Ine Stange, Jr., William & Mary (Oslo, Norway)
Gurholt and Stange helped William & Mary claim the doubles point in conference road victories at UNCW (5-2) and Charleston (6-1) last week. Playing at the No. 2 spot, the Tribe tandem rolled over UNCW’s Alicia Eberwein and Stela Joksimovic, 6-1, and provided the clinching point at CofC by beating Peyton Brotzman and McKenzie Daniel, 6-2. Gurholt and Stange, who improved to 6-4 at No. 2 doubles, were also a combined 4-0 in singles last week.
