Karol Malirz earned CAA Men’s Tennis Player of the Week honors, while William & Mary junior
Hedda Gurholt received CAA Women’s Tennis Player of the Week accolades. Campbell’s
Benjamin Maes and
Lukas Steffen were chosen as the Men’s Doubles Team of the Week and Elon’s
Lizette Reding and
Sibel Tanik were selected as the Women’s Doubles Team of the Week.
CAA Men’s Tennis Player of the Week
Karol Malirz, Jr., Delaware (Katowice, Poland)
Malirz went 2-0 at No. 1 singles to help 44
th-ranked Delaware post victories over George Mason (4-0) and CAA foe Charleston (4-3) last week. The junior defeated Mason’s Monil Lotlikar, 7-5, 6-2 and followed with a 6-4, 6-3 triumph over Charleston’s Mattia Bernardi. The Blue Hens improved to 13-0 overall, including a 4-0 mark in CAA play, and are off to their best start in school history.
CAA Men’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
Benjamin Maes, Sr., Campbell (Geel, Belgium)
Lukas Steffen, So., Campbell (Cary, N.C.)
Maes and Steffen helped Campbell claim the doubles point and then added a pair of singles victories as Campbell beat UNCG, 6-1, last Thursday. Playing at No. 1 doubles, the duo downed UNCG’s Timofiy Khrystyuk and Luke Thomson, 6-4. Maes followed with a 6-4, 7-6 win at No. 1 singles and Steffen added a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles as the Camels won their third match in their last four outings.
CAA Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Hedda Gurholt, Jr., William & Mary (Oslo, Norway)
Gurholt extended her winning streak to five matches after recording a pair of victories at No. 1 singles in William & Mary’s wins over CAA foe Hofstra (7-0) and Temple (6-1) last week. The junior beat Hofstra’s Lea Forste-Dinell, 6-4, 6-2, and clinched the match vs. the Owls by topping Samantha Nenere, 6-2, 6-3. Gurholt, who was also 2-0 in doubles last week, improved to 11-2 in dual matches this season.
CAA Women’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
Lizette Reding, Sr., Elon (Leon, Mexico)
Sibel Tanik, Sr., Elon (Raleigh, N.C.)
Reding and Tanik tallied a win at No. 1 doubles to help Elon claim the doubles point in its match with 31
st-ranked Wake Forest. It marked the first time since 2018 that the Phoenix captured the doubles point against a ranked opponent. Reding and Tanik defeated WFU’s Brooke Killingsworth and Jingyi Li, 6-3, for their ninth victory of the season and the 33
rd in their career as a tandem.
