Three Programs Garner Men’s CAA Indoor Track & Field Year-End Honors

RICHMOND, Va. (March 28, 2024) – Three programs – Northeastern, Campbell and Hampton – garnered Men’s CAA Indoor Track and Field year-end honors as voted on by the league’s head coaches.
Northeastern junior sprinter/hurdler
Ethan Exilhomme was named CAA Men’s Track Athlete of the Year, and Campbell senior jumper
Charles McBride II earned CAA Men’s Field Athlete of the Year accolades. Additionally, Hampton freshman
Leo Davis collected CAA Men’s Rookie of the Year recognition, and Northeastern head coach
Tramaine Shaw was tabbed as CAA Men’s Coach of the Year by her peers.
Exilhomme earned First Team All-America honors by finishing eighth in the 60m hurdles (7.85) at the NCAA Championship. The junior ranked fifth in the NCAA this season with a personal-best time of 7.60 in the 60m hurdles – which broke conference and school records. In addition, Exilhomme was the CAA Champion in the 60m dash (6.69) after breaking the meet record in the prelims with a personal-best time of 6.68. He finished fourth in the 60m hurdles at the CAA Championship (8.08) and ran a season-best time of 21.41 in the 200m. Exilhomme is the first Northeastern student-athlete to earn year-end honors indoors.
McBride makes Campbell program history, becoming the first CAA major award winner for the Camels. He burst onto the scene in his first CAA season and was named Most Outstanding Field Performer of the Championship. The senior won and set meet records in the high jump (2.09m) and triple jump (15.25m) at the CAA Championship while finishing seventh in the long jump (7.15m). In addition, McBride broke conference records in the triple jump and high jump with season-best marks of 15.60m (51-02.25) and 2.16m (7-01.00), respectively. Furthermore, McBride was the first CAA jumper to clear seven feet in the high jump since 1995.
Davis earned Second Team All-America honors in his first collegiate season, finishing 15th in the 800m (1:52.98) at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship. Davis concluded the winter ranked 12th nationally in the 800m with a personal-best time of 1:47.05 – which also broke the conference and school records in the event. Additionally, he improved his 800m time in his first three collegiate races before scoring in the 800m at his first CAA Championship. Davis is the first Pirate in program history to earn a CAA major postseason award.
Shaw receives CAA Men’s Coach of the Year accolades for the second straight season after guiding Northeastern to back-to-back CAA Indoor Track & Field team titles. The Huskies took home gold medals in five events, including the 60-meter, 800-meter, Mile, 3K, 4x800-meter relay, distance medley relay and weight throw. Overall, the Huskies had 13 All-CAA finishes. Shaw has seven CAA Men’s Coach of the Year accolades – indoors and outdoors – since taking over the program in 2018.
