RICHMOND, Va. (March 28, 2024) – The final weekend of March includes quality league showdowns and some adjusted schedules to provide entertainment throughout the upcoming calendar.
Baseball | Schedule
The second weekend of conference play features a number of excellent matchups. Preseason favorite Northeastern (18-6, 2-1 CAA) hosts a Monmouth (7-12) squad that is off to a 3-0 start in CAA play – with Friday’s contest televised in New England on NESN – while UNCW (14-11) takes a 3-0 CAA mark against a North Carolina A&T (17-7, 2-1 CAA) team that has won six of its past eight games. William & Mary (18-7, 2-1 CAA), which has won eight of its last nine contests, visits a Delaware (12-11, 2-1 CAA) team that is coming off a series victory at nationally ranked Campbell last weekend. Rounding out the schedule, Stony Brook (12-12, 1-2 CAA) welcomes Charleston (14-9, 1-2 CAA), Campbell (17-7, 1-2 CAA) makes the short trip to Elon (10-14, 0-3 CAA) and Towson (5-19, 0-3 CAA) hosts Hofstra (9-15, 1-2 CAA).
Softball | Schedule
Conference play continues in CAA Softball, but most games will be Thursday through Saturday due to the holiday weekend. Three weekend series feature teams above .500 in league play going head-to-head. UNCW (8-1) is off to its best start to CAA play in program history and faces Hofstra (5-3) in a matchup of the past two CAA Champions. The Pride has dominated the all-time series, 46-8, but the last time the teams played, the Seahawks downed Hofstra en route to its first-ever CAA title. Delaware (8-1) rides a 10-game winning streak into its series against Drexel (5-3), who has won five in a row, including a CAA sweep last weekend. The Blue Hens have won back-to-back series against the Dragons in a matchup dating back to 1983. Finally, two newer conference teams – Campbell (6-3) and Monmouth (5-3) – square off in their first matchup as conference opponents. The Camels have won two of their first three league series in their inaugural CAA season, while the Hawks enter the weekend with back-to-back series victories series for the first time since joining the CAA.
Women’s Lacrosse | Schedule
A mix of league and non-league play makes up the schedule for the weekend with games on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Monday. Towson gets a non-conference visit from Jacksonville on Thursday and No. 15 Stony Brook (8-2, 3-0 CAA) heads to Monmouth in Friday CAA action (1 p.m., NBCSP/FloLive) before a three-game Saturday conference slate.
The league’s other two undefeated teams in conference play will be on the road in a Saturday LacrosseTV doubleheader, as Drexel (7-3, 2-0) is at Elon (12 p.m.) and Hofstra (6-4, 3-0) will visit Towson (3 p.m.). Delaware heads to William & Mary for a 1 p.m. contest on FloLive to round out the weekend league slate. Campbell has the bye from CAA play and will visit Duke on Monday night.
Men’s Lacrosse | Schedule
For the first time this spring, we have a four-game slate of all CAA contests in men’s lacrosse on Saturday. At noon, Delaware and Towson look to remain unbeaten in league play as the Blue Hens visit Hampton (FloLive) and the Tigers host Stony Brook (FloLive). Delaware is looking for its second consecutive 3-0 start to CAA play, while Towson is attempting to start league play 3-0 for the first time since 2017. The Tigers and Seawolves have won two games in the all-time series, and three of four have been decided by one goal. At 1 p.m., Fairfield travels to Drexel (FloLive), and Hofstra entertains Monmouth (FloLive). The Hawks – who defeated Stony Brook for the first time last weekend – look to win back-to-back games on Long Island and down the Pride for the first time. The Stags look to snap a six-game skid against the Dragons, who maintain a 9-2 advantage in the all-time series.
Rowing | Schedule
After calm waters last week, six CAA rowing crews will compete this weekend. Three programs – Delaware, Northeastern and Villanova – head to the site of the 2024 CAA Championship, rowing on the Cooper River for the Doc Hosea Invitational. The defending CAA Champions and Wildcats will be making their spring debuts. Drexel will also be competing for the first time this spring when the Dragons head to UCF for the Sunshine State Invitational. Additionally, UConn will participate in a pair of dual meets while Monmouth takes on LIU, Iona and George Mason in Mill Neck, N.Y.
Tennis | Schedule
It’s a light weekend of conference action, with the Drexel men’s and women’s teams visiting UNCW on Friday. Highlighting the men’s non-conference slate is North Carolina A&T facing No. 16 NC State on Sunday. Hampton (Norfolk State), Hofstra (Adelphi and Wagner), Monmouth (Marist and Navy) and William & Mary (Longwood) also have matches.
On the women’s side, Hampton (Norfolk State and East Carolina), Hofstra (LIU and Wagner), Monmouth (Marist), UNCW (George Washington), Stony Brook (St. John’s) and Towson (Salisbury and Johns Hopkins) take to the courts.
Track & Field | Schedule
It’s one of the best weekends during the regular season in NCAA Track & Field as the Raleigh Relays and Pepsi Florida Relays take center stage. Eleven CAA programs – Campbell, Charleston, Delaware, Elon, Hampton, Hofstra, North Carolina A&T, UNCW, Northeastern and Stony Brook – will send student-athletes to Paul Derr Track & Field Facility in North Carolina, while the Camels and Pirates also travel competitors to James G. Presley Stadium at Percy Bear Track in Gainesville. In addition, Monmouth and Towson will host home invitationals, with Hofstra, Northeastern, Stony Brook and W&M splitting their teams across local competition, as well as the Raleigh Relays.
Golf | Schedule
In men’s action, Elon co-hosts the Cutter Creek Intercollegiate with Campbell and Delaware in attendance; Delaware will turn around and play the Golfweek/AGT Intercollegiate following the event in North Carolina. Hofstra opens the spring with the Battle at Rum Pointe in Maryland and will be joined by Monmouth, while N.C. A&T and Towson will play the Southern Invitational.
Women’s tournaments this weekend include Charleston’s visit to the Liz Murphey Collegiate, Delaware, Elon, and William & Mary at ECU’s Ironwood Invitational, N.C. A&T at the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate, and Towson playing the JEL Golf Invitational.
