Towson's Benzing, Delaware's Sabev Ready To Compete At NCAA Men's Swimming Championship

NCAA MEN'S SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIP LIVE RESULTS
RICHMOND, Va. (March 27, 2024) – Towson senior
Brian Benzing and Delaware junior
Toni Sabev compete this week at the NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championship, which is being held at the IU Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI in Indianapolis, Ind.
Benzing will get started on Thursday morning with the preliminaries of the 200 IM. He and Sabev will both compete in the 100 breast preliminaries on Friday morning as well as the 200 breast preliminaries on Saturday morning. Should they advance in any of the events, the finals are held on the same day in the evening.
Benzing is making his third consecutive appearance at the NCAA Championship. He earned honorable mention All-America accolades in 2022 after finishing 13
th in the 100 breast with a time of 51.66, and repeated as an honorable mention All-American in 2023 following a 15
th-place effort in the 100 breast with a time of 51.48. At last month’s CAA championship, Benzing set a new conference record in winning the 200 IM (1:43.13) and captured the 100 breast for the fourth straight year (51.30). He set the CAA record in the 100 breast (51.25) in February of 2023.
Sabev is the first Delaware swimmer in program history to compete at the NCAA Championship. He placed second to Benzing in the 100 breast at the CAA Championship with a program-record time of 51.87. He was the CAA champion in the 200 breast with a winning time of 1:55.92.
Benzing enters the 100 breast preliminaries with the 15
th-fastest time in the field, while Sabev is 26
th.
