Towson's Benzing Caps Outstanding NCAA Men's Swimming Championship With Second All-America Honor

Brian Benzing capped an outstanding NCAA Men’s Swimming Championship with a second All-America honor on Saturday, finishing 16
th overall in the 200 breaststroke at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis. Ind.
Seeded 35
th coming into the 200 breast preliminaries on Saturday morning, Benzing broke a CAA all-time record that had stood since 1991, posting a time of 1:52.71 to earn a spot in the consolation finals. He returned to the pool on Saturday night and touched the wall in 1:53.26, placing 16
th and receiving honorable mention All-America status.
On Friday, Benzing earned All-America accolades in the 100 breast after shattering his own CAA record with a time of 50.59 to claim the silver medal. He finished second to California’s Liam Bell, who set a new NCAA mark with a time of 49.53.
Benzing also broke his own CAA record in the 200 IM on Thursday with a time of 1:42.82. That effort placed him 23
rd overall.
Delaware junior
Toni Sabev, who was the first Blue Hens’ swimmer to ever make the NCAA Men’s Swimming Championship, finished 21
st in the 100 breast preliminaries on Friday morning with a time of 52.03. On Saturday, he placed 40
th in the 200 breast preliminaries with a time of 1:59.08.
