CAA Women’s Lacrosse Weekly Awards – March 4

RICHMOND, Va. (March 4, 2024) – Stony Brook senior, Ellie Masera, Drexel redshirt sophomore Jenika Cuocco, and Elon freshman MJ Santa Barbara are the winners of the CAA Women’s Lacrosse Weekly Awards presented by Primis for the week ending March 3.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Ellie Masera, Stony Brook
Senior | Midfield | Eastport, N.Y. / Eastport-South Manor
Masera repeats as CAA Player of the Week after shattering a league record in Saturday morning’s victory over Villanova. The senior from Long Island tallied a program and CAA-record 17 draw controls – three more than the previous record – while adding five goals and three assists in No. 12 Stony Brook’s 20-8 win over Villanova. Masera leads the nation with 8.75 points per game, is second with 6.00 goals, and third with 10.00 draws.
 
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jenika Cuocco, Drexel
Redshirt Sophomore | Goalkeeper | Sound Beach, N.Y. / Rocky Point
Cuocco made 11 saves against eight goals allowed in Drexel’s 10-8 midweek victory over No. 25 Penn State. The sophomore from Long Island held the Nittany Lions to their lowest goal output of the season against an attack that put 19 shots on goal. Cuocco is second in the nation with a .607 save percentage, third in saves per game (13.00), and 13th in GAA (8.40). Drexel is the first team outside the Top 25 in this week’s ILWomen/IWLCA poll.
 
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
MJ Santa Barbara, Elon
Freshman | Midfielder | Guilford, Conn. / Guilford
Santa Barbara led the way for Elon’s markedly improved draw unit in the Phoenix’s midweek win over East Carolina. The freshman from Connecticut corralled 10 draws and helped Elon to a 22-5 advantage in the draw circle, good for a program-record +17 margin. Santa Barbara is sixth nationally with 9.33 draws per game and the Phoenix is fifth nationally in draw percentage (.662).
