CAA Outdoor Track & Field Weekly Awards – April 2

RICHMOND, Va. (April 2, 2024) – The CAA has announced its outdoor track and field weekly awards for the week of March 25 through March 31. Hurdlers and high jumpers highlighted this week’s awards as three student-athletes recorded top-15 NCAA marks. Campbell redshirt senior Chastity Pickett repeated as Women’s CAA Track Athlete of the Week, and Hampton sophomore Emmani Shaw was named Women’s CAA Field Athlete of the Week. In addition, North Carolina A&T graduate student Aveon Reid received Men’s CAA Track Athlete of the Week recognition, and Campbell senior C.J. McBride garnered Men’s CAA Field Athlete of the Week accolades.

Chastity Pickett, Campbell

Pickett ran the nation’s top time in the 400m hurdles en route to a victory in the event at the Pepsi Florida Relays. The redshirt senior continued to etch her name in the CAA record books, breaking the conference record with her winning time of 55.70. Pickett also ran a league-leading time of 13.17 in the 100m hurdles to place fifth in the event. Her mark ranks 11th in the NCAA East Region and 17th in the NCAA. Finally, for the second consecutive week, she helped Campbell reset the conference record in the 4x100m relay, running 44.47. Before last week, the record had not been touched since 1999.
WOMEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Emmani Shaw, Hampton
Sophomore | Combined Events / Jumps | Portsmouth, Va. / Norview High
Shaw earned a top-five finish by recording a league-leading mark in the high jump at the Raleigh Relays. The sophomore opened the spring with a clearance of 1.70m (5-07.00) to place fourth in the event. Her mark not only ranks first in the CAA but is 38th in the NCAA East Region and 75th in the NCAA.

Aveon Reid, North Carolina A&T
Graduate | Sprints / Hurdles | Gastonia, N.C. / Forestview
Reid won the 400m hurdles at the Raleigh Relays, posting a league-leading and personal-best time of 50.53. The mark ranks second in the NCAA East Region and seventh in the NCAA this spring. In addition, he earned a top-10 finish in the 110m hurdles, placing seventh in a season-best 13.94 – a time that ranks top-50 nationally. Finally, Reid ran the opening leg on the A&T 4x400m relay team, helping the Aggies to a season-best time of 3:13.02.

C.J. McBride, Campbell
Senior | Jumps | Apex, N.C. / Apex
McBride won the high jump at the Raleigh Relays with a conference-leading clearance of 2.15m (7-00.50). His season-best mark ranks eighth in the NCAA East Region and 13th in the nation this spring. McBride has cleared 2.15m in the event indoors and outdoors this year, becoming the first CAA jumper to surpass the mark since 1995.
