Daniel Flynn earned CAA Men’s Tennis Player of the Week honors, while William & Mary grad student
Mila Mejic received CAA Women’s Tennis Player of the Week accolades. William & Mary’s
Satchel Benn and
Oliver Hague were chosen as the Men’s Doubles Team of the Week and Hampton’s
Meiri Okuwaki and
Sofia Sokolova were selected as the Women’s Doubles Team of the Week.
CAA Men’s Tennis Player of the Week
Daniel Flynn, Sr., Hampton (South Wales, U.K.)
Flynn was unbeaten in singles and doubles to help Hampton post a 4-0 week with victories over Coppin State (6-1), George Mason (4-2), Virginia State (4-0) and Navy (4-3). Playing at the No. 2 singles slot, the Pirates’ senior beat CSU’s Harsh Kheterpal (6-0, 6-3) and Mason’s Jacco Arends (6-3, 6-3) in straight sets before clinching the match vs. Navy by rallying past Tommy Kim, 5-7, 6-2, 6-1. Flynn was also 4-0 in doubles and secured the point with partner Aryan Arora against Navy and Mason.
CAA Men’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
Satchel Benn, Gr., William & Mary (Wellington, New Zealand)
Oliver Hague, Fr., William & Mary (Manchester, England)
Benn and Hague ran their winning streak to 12 matches with a pair of victories at No. 2 doubles as William & Mary defeated Richmond (5-2) and Presbyterian (5-2) last week. The Tribe tandem topped Richmond’s Daniel Kliebhan and Sebastian Miano, 6-4, to help earn the doubles point, and rolled past PC’s Austin Skoog and Denim Yadav, 6-2. Benn and Hague, who improved to 13-4 as a doubles team, also contributed victories in both of their singles matches last week.
CAA Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Mila Mejic, Gr., William & Mary (Subotica, Serbia)
Mejic went 2-0 in singles and doubles to help William & Mary register conference wins over Elon (5-2) and Campbell (6-1) last week. Playing at the No. 3 singles slot, the grad student got past Elon’s Mariana Reding, 6-1, 7-6 (2) and followed with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph over Campbell’s Tasmin Hart. She also teamed with partner Francesca Davis for a pair of victories at No. 3 doubles as W&M earned the doubles point in both matches. Mejic is 11-5 at No. 3 singles and has won nine straight matches.
CAA Women’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
Meiri Okuwaki, Jr., Hampton (Saitama, Japan)
Sofia Sokolova, Fr., Hampton (Krasnogorsk, Russia)
Okuwaki and Sokolova tallied a 2-0 record at No. 2 doubles as Hampton claimed the doubles point in team victories over Coppin State (4-0), George Mason (4-0) and North Carolina A&T (6-1) last week. The Pirates’ duo beat Mason’s Dana Edson and Cenan Liu, 6-3, and topped A&T’s Hana El Sherif and Nour Gueblaoui, 6-3, to clinch the doubles point against the Aggies.
