CAA Outdoor Track & Field Weekly Awards – April 16

RICHMOND, Va. (April 16, 2024) – The CAA has announced its outdoor track and field weekly awards for the week beginning on April 8 and ending on April 14. On the women’s side, Elon junior Jette Beermann earned CAA Track Athlete of the Week honors, and Northeastern fifth-year Dominique Biron received CAA Field Athlete of the Week recognition. For the men, UNCW graduate Josh Parks was named CAA Track Athlete of the Week, and William & Mary senior Chris Arias collected CAA Field Athlete of the Week accolades.
WOMEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Jette Beerman, Elon
Junior | Distance | Rellingten, Germany / Johannes-Brahms-Schule
Beerman ran a league-leading time of 4:19.33 in the 1500m at the Duke Invitational. The junior took third place in the competition with her personal best mark. In addition, the time ranks 36th in the NCAA East Region and 68th nationally this spring. Beerman also earned a top-five finish in the 5000m at the meet, running 17:13.78 to place fourth.

Biron won the heptathlon at the UConn Northeast Challenge with a personal-best score of 5,699 points. It marks the best score in the event by a CAA student-athlete since 1997, ranking first in the conference, third in the NCAA East Region and seventh in the country this season. Biron won six of seven events in the competition, including the high jump (1.65m), shot put (11.47m), long jump (5.89m) and javelin (36.72m). Additionally, Biron posted the fourth fastest 100m hurdle time in the conference this spring with a season-best 13.57 (w) while winning the 200m (24.30(w)) and finishing second in the 800m (2:17.22).
MEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Josh Parks, UNCW
Graduate | Sprints / Hurdles | Kannapolis, N.C. / A.L. Brown
Parks posted two top-20 NCAA marks at the Duke Invitational, winning the 110m and 400m hurdles. The graduate ran a personal best and school record 13.57 to win the 110m hurdles. His mark is the fastest wind-legal time in the conference this season while ranking ninth in the NCAA East Region and 18th nationally among all conditions. He followed with a league-leading time of 50.52 to claim his victory in the 400m hurdles. The time was .04 off his lifetime best, ranking ninth in the NCAA East Region and 16th in the country this season. Parks is one of two men’s hurdlers ranked top-20 in the NCAA in the 110m and 400m hurdles this spring.

Chris Arias, William & Mary
Senior | Throws | Red Bank, N.J. / Christian Brothers Academy
Arias recorded a season-best throw to win the javelin at the Virginia Grand Prix. The senior launched the implement 67.56m (211-08.00) on his final attempt to emerge victoriously. The throw ranks first in the CAA this season while sitting 19th in the NCAA East Region and 41st nationally. Additionally, it is the second farthest throw of his career and the longest since April 2022.
