WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 18, 2024) – Stony Brook women's lacrosse senior midfielder Ellie Masera has been named a Tewaaraton Award nominee, the Tewaaraton Foundation announced Thursday afternoon.

Masera is a nominee for the third straight season and gives the CAA a nominee in three consecutive years, as James Madison’s Isabella Peterson earned the distinction in 2021. A Stony Brook player has been named a Tewaaraton nominee 15 times since 2013.

Masera is amid a standout senior season as she has tallied 81 points, 56 goals, 25 assists, and 108 draw controls in 13 games. She currently ranks first in the nation in points, first in points per game (6.2), first in shots (10.2), first in shots on goal per game (7.7), fourth in goals per game (4.3), eighth in goals, and ranks 11th in draw controls per game (8.3).

The senior scored her 200th career goal in the Seawolves' 13-10 win over Rutgers on April 9. Masera became just the sixth player in program history to reach the 200-goal plateau and joined teammate Kailyn Hart, who also scored her 200th career goal in that game.

Masera has registered 100 or more draw controls in three straight seasons. She is the first player in program history to record 100-plus draw controls three times in her collegiate career and currently ranks second in program history with 353 draw controls.

Throughout the 2024 season, Masera has earned a plethora of honors, including Preseason All-CAA, USA Lacrosse Magazine Preseason All-American First Team, ILWomen Preseason All-American First Team, USA Lacrosse Division I Player of the Week (Feb. 27), IWLCA Division I Offensive Player of the Week (Feb. 27), CAA Player of the Week (Feb. 26, March 4, April 15), and Tewaaraton Award watch list.

The Tewaaraton Award is recognized as the pre-eminent lacrosse award, annually honoring the top male and female college lacrosse players in the United States. The selection committees are composed of premier college coaches and are appointed annually by the Tewaaraton Foundation.

Five men's and five women's finalists will be selected from these groups and announced on May 9.
