Francesca Salvato earned CAA Women’s Tennis Player of the Week accolades. Elon’s
Juan Sengariz and
Ben Zipay were chosen as the Men’s Doubles Team of the Week and Drexel’s
Maddie Ricardo and
Elisa Rigazio were selected as the Women’s Doubles Team of the Week.
CAA Men’s Tennis Co-Player of the Week
Mateo Bivol, Jr., Monmouth (Cestas, France)
Bivol put together a 4-0 week at No. 1 singles as Monmouth defeated FDU (5-2), Marist (4-0) and Navy (4-0) and fell 4-3 to St. John’s last week. The junior rallied past FDU’s Ajurn Sriram, 3-6, 6-4, 10-8 and pulled out a three-set victory over SJU’s Martin Bugaj, 6-7, 6-1, 6-3. He closed the week with a pair of match-clinching wins, beating Marist’s Jose Catala, 6-4, 6-3, and Navy’s Aniketh Ayinala, 6-1, 6-2. Bivol is on an eight-match winning streak to improve his record to 15-6.
CAA Men’s Tennis Co-Player of the Week
Harold Huens, Jr., UNCW (Waterloo, Belgium)
Huens went 2-0 at No. 1 singles last week as UNCW handed No. 48 Delaware (4-1) its first loss of the season and followed with a 4-0 CAA triumph over Drexel. The junior topped Delaware’s Karol Malirz, 6-4, 6-1, and rolled past Drexel’s Alan Jesudason, 6-2, 6-1. Huens is on a four-match winning streak and is 7-4 overall this season.
CAA Men’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
Juan Sengariz, Jr., Elon (Santander, Spain)
Ben Zipay, Sr., Elon (Osprey, Fla.)
Sengariz and Zipay clinched the critical doubles point to help Elon edge No. 68 William & Mary, 4-3. The Phoenix duo edged the Tribe’s Bill Duo and Konstantinos Raptis, 7-5, for their third straight victory at the No. 1 doubles spot. It was Elon’s first team win over W&M in Williamsburg in seven tries.
CAA Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Francesca Salvato, So., Charleston (Miami Beach, Fla.)
Salvato posted a 2-0 singles record last week as Charleston pulled out narrow conference wins over Elon (4-3) and Drexel (4-3) last week. The sophomore pulled out a three-set battle over Elon’s Helen Sarikulaya, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 at No. 5 singles, and defeated Drexel’s Rebecca Feidler, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 6 singles. Charleston is on a five-match winning streak, including four straight against CAA foes.
CAA Women’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
Maddie Ricardo, Jr., Drexel (Gold Coast, Australia)
Elisa Rigazio, Jr., Drexel (Lyon, France)
Ricardo and Rigazio picked up a pair of victories at No. 2 doubles as Drexel claimed the doubles point in conference matches against Charleston (3-4) and UNCW (5-2). The Dragons’ duo beat Charleston’s Peyton Brotzman and Jaiden McKee, 6-2, and followed with a 6-2 triumph over UNCW’s Stela Joksimovic and Alicia Eberwein. Ricardo and Rigazio improved to 9-2 at the No. 2 doubles slot this season.
