Elon Moves in Front After Second Round of CAA Men’s Golf Championship

SAINT HELENA ISLAND, S.C. (April 22, 2024) – Elon and Charleston both climbed one spot to move into first and second through 36 holes of the 2024 CAA Men’s Golf Championship at Dataw Island.
The Phoenix shot 9-under in tougher conditions than the tournament’s opening round, as winds picked up in the South Carolina Lowcountry. Charleston was 7-under on the day to pull within four shots of the lead, while UNCW’s 1-under has the Seahawks six back. Campbell was 4-under on the day and is 12 strokes back in fourth.
Delaware moved up one spot to fifth, leapfrogging Drexel, while William & Mary and Monmouth stayed put in seventh and eighth. Towson was the only team to improve its score from Sunday and climbed to ninth, while North Carolina A&T and Hofstra rounded out the 11-team field.
Charleston’s
Kieron van Wyk – the 2022 individual medalist at Dataw – is alone in first through 36 holes at 9-under after a second-round 69. The Elon duo of
Bronson Myers and
Jack Wieler turned in their second consecutive 68s to sit in a tie for second at 8-under, while Charleston’s
Zach Reuland and UNCW’s
Gray Mitchum are tied for fourth at 7-under. Sixteen players in total are under par through 36 holes; Elon and Campbell lead that group with four players each.
Tuesday’s final round will begin at 8 a.m. off split tees with the final groups teeing off at 9:48 a.m.
