CAA Outdoor Track & Field Weekly Awards – April 23

RICHMOND, Va. (April 23, 2024) – The CAA has announced its outdoor track and field weekly awards for the week beginning on April 15 and ending on April 21. Monmouth swept the women’s awards, with juniors Yasmeen Tinsley earning CAA Track Athlete of the Week honors and Veronica Chainov collecting CAA Field Athlete of the Week accolades. On the men’s side, Northeastern graduate student Kereme Ayhan was named CAA Track Athlete of the Week, and Monmouth senior Evan Niedrowski garnered CAA Field Athlete of the Week recognition.
 
WOMEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Yasmeen Tinsley, Monmouth
Junior |Sprints / Hurdles | Arlington, Va. / Washington Liberty HS
Tinsley had an impressive weekend at the Virginia Challenge, earning PRs in three events and breaking two Monmouth program records. The junior won the 400m hurdles in 57.90 to establish a new personal and school record. Her time is second in the conference this season, ranking 19th in the NCAA East Region and 33rd nationally. In addition, Tinsley reset the program record in the 100m hurdles for the second time this season, finishing in a lifetime best of 13.81. It marks the third-fastest wind-legal time in the CAA this season and fifth-fastest overall. Finally, she posted a personal best time of 12.10 in the 100m dash. 
 
WOMEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Veronica Chainov, Monmouth
Junior | Jumps | Beer Sheva, Israel / Mekif Gimel HS
Chainov broke the Monmouth program record with a league-leading clearance in the high jump at the Virginia Challenge. The junior jumped a personal-best 1.77m (5-09.75) to take third place in the competition. The CAA Indoor High Jump Champion now has the top mark in the conference outdoors while ranking 18th in the NCAA East Region and 39th in the nation. 
 
MEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Kerem Ayhan, Northeastern
Graduate | Middle Distance | Hackettstown, N.J. / Blair Academy 
Ayhan reset the league standard in the 800m for the second time this season, recording a personal-best time at the Wake Forest Invitational. The graduate student crossed the finish in 1:47.59 to place seventh in the competition. Ayhan improved his league-leading mark by nearly half a second, ranking 18th in the NCAA East Region and 26th nationally this spring. 
 
MEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Evan Niedrowski, Monmouth
Senior | Throws | Wyomissing, Pa. / Wyomissing Area HS 
Niedrowski opened his spring with a victory in the javelin at the Virginia Challenge. The All-American won the event with a mark of 73.38m (240-09.00). His throw ranks first in the conference this season by nearly six meters, and he is the only CAA student-athlete with a mark over 70 meters. In addition, Niedrowski ranks seventh in the NCAA East Region and 15th in the country.
