NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. (April 23, 2024) –Stony Brook women’s lacrosse junior Avery Hines has earned a national Player of the Week honor for the second time in three weeks after collecting the IWLCA’s Co-Defensive Player of the Week honor Tuesday.

Hines was CAA Defensive Player of the Week for the third straight week on Monday after anchoring a Stony Brook defense that held the CAA’s No. 2 offense to less than half its season scoring average. The junior from Maryland notched five caused turnovers and two ground balls in Saturday’s 18-5 win over Hofstra; the Pride entered the day undefeated in league play and averaging 13.4 goals per game, which ranked in the top 35 nationally. Hines is fifth in the nation in caused turnovers per game (2.81).

Hines’ honor Tuesday is the 11th national Player of the Week honor for a CAA player over the last two seasons – eight from the IWLCA and three from USA Lacrosse Magazine. Hines and teammate Ellie Masera have combined for three of the four coaches’ association honors this year with Delaware’s Madison Hranicka earning the honor; Masera also collected USA Lacrosse Magazine’s honor this season.
