2024 CAA Women's Tennis Championship Gets Underway On Thursday

CAA WOMEN'S TENNIS CHAMPIONSHP BRACKET

RICHMOND, Va. (April 24, 2024) – The 2024 CAA Women’s Tennis Championship gets underway on Thursday with 12 teams battling for the conference title and an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament. The four-day event (April 25-28) will be held at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center on the campus of Elon University, which has served as the championship site in five of the past seven years.

The tournament begins with four first-round matches on Thursday. At 10 a.m., #8 Hampton (13-8) faces #9 Hofstra (8-10) and #5 Elon (13-9) takes on #12 Monmouth (3-14). At 2 p.m., #7 Campbell (11-8) meets #10 Towson (6-10) and #6 UNCW (10-7) challenges #11 Stony Brook (3-13).

The top four seeds take the court on Friday for quarterfinal play. At 10 a.m., top-seeded Delaware (18-6) takes on the Hampton/Hofstra winner and #4 Drexel (11-7) faces the Elon/Monmouth winner. At 2 p.m., second-seeded William & Mary (15-5) battles the Campbell/Towson winner and #3 Charleston (17-14) meets the UNCW/Stony Brook winner.

The two semifinal matches are scheduled for 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday and the championship match is set for 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Delaware earned the top seed in the CAA Women’s Tennis Championship for the first time in program history and is looking to capture its first conference title. The Blue Hens have plenty of experience at the top of their lineup with grad student Slade Coetzee, who owns a 14-5 dual match record, and grad student Eliza Askarova, who is 12-9. UD has won nine of its last 10 contests and closed the regular season with a 4-0 triumph over 70th-ranked VCU.

William & Mary has captured back-to-back CAA championships and has 28 overall conference titles. The Tribe is led by 2023 CAA Player of the Hedda Gurholt, who is 16-2 in dual matches this season, while grad transfer Yu Chen has a 13-5 dual match mark. William & Mary comes into the tournament on an 11-match winning streak.

Charleston also comes into the event playing well, having won eight matches in a row and 10 of its last 11. At the top of the lineup for the Cougars are junior Maja Jekauc, who has a 14-5 singles record, and grad student Halli Trinkle, who is 12-7. Charleston advanced to the CAA finals in 2014 and 2015.

Drexel received its highest CAA Tournament seed in program history at No. 4. The Dragons advanced to the semifinals a year ago and closed the regular season by winning three-of-four. Junior Lorie Lemongo has 17 wins at the top of the singles lineup and Elisa Rigazio is 18-7 at No. 2.

Elon has reached the semifinals of the CAA Tournament for the past eight years and made the finals in 2022. The Phoenix has a pair of seniors atop its lineup with Lizette Reding, who is 15-6, and Sibel Tanik, who has 10 victories.

UNCW advanced to the CAA Tournament finals as the No. 6 seed in 2023 and is hoping for similar success. The Seahawks feature Eda Arli and Stela Joksimovic in the top two singles positions.

Campbell makes its first appearance in the CAA Tournament. Mialy Ranaivo is the Camels’ top seed and has 10 singles wins, while No. 2 player Lily Chitambar is 12-5.

Hampton comes into the CAA Tournament riding a five-match winning streak. Top player Mio Kozaki has 10 singles victories this season while Diana Starodubsteva has 11 wins.

Hofstra won three of its final four matches, including a pair of conference victories. Atop the Pride lineup are junior Lea Forste-Dinell and grad student Dianela Rodriguez.

Towson tallied a pair of victories in CAA play this season. The Tigers are led by senior Mya Spencer and freshman Chandre’ Boshoff.

Stony Brook is coming off a win in its regular-season finale. Freshman Mia Palladino is at the top of the Seawolves’ lineup and freshman Elena Lobo-Corral competes at the No. 2 spot.

Monmouth closed the regular season with a 7-0 victory over Rider. Junior Lana Brezanin is in the top singles spot for the Hawks with sophomore Nitika Girish at No. 2.
