RICHMOND, Va. (April 27, 2024) – An overtime victory by Elon in the final game of the 2024 regular season earned the Phoenix a spot in the CAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship to join Stony Brook, Drexel, and Hofstra in Thursday’s semifinals on Long Island.
No. 13 Stony Brook (15-2, 8-0 CAA) will be the top seed on its home turf after a second straight undefeated regular season since joining the CAA. Stony Brook has won 10 straight games entering the CAA Championship and holds ranked victories over No. 4 Syracuse and No. 19 Stanford, both in overtime. Tewaaraton nominee
Ellie Masera ranks second in the nation with 6.20 points/game, sixth with 4.20 goals/game, and ninth with 8.33 draws/game.
Elon (9-7, 5-3 CAA) is the No. 4 seed and will face Stony Brook on Thursday at 12 p.m. Elon defeated Towson, 12-11, on Saturday at Towson on
Sammy Fisher’s overtime winner to secure the last spot in the tournament. The Phoenix has defeated four straight opponents on its way to its first CAA Semifinals appearance since 2021.
Drexel (12-4, 7-1 CAA) is the No. 2 seed after an impressive regular season that has seen the Dragons just outside the national rankings for much of the year. Drexel claims two ranked wins of its own with victories over No. 16 Penn State and No. 20 Navy.
Jenika Cuocco entered the weekend second in the nation with a .570 save percentage and was a Tewaaraton watch list honoree. The Dragons are playing in their fourth consecutive CAA Championship and have earned an NCAA Tournament berth in each of the last three years.
Hofstra (9-7, 6-2 CAA) is the No. 3 seed and will get a rematch of Saturday’s regular-season finale with Drexel when the Pride and Dragons meet Thursday at 2:30 p.m. Hofstra is 8-3 in its last 11 games entering the CAA Championship behind an offensive attack that features four players with 29+ goals and
Melissa Sconone second in the CAA in assists. The Pride returns to the CAA Championship after a one-year absence, having played in three straight tournaments from 2019-22, and aims for its first CAA title since 2007.
