CAA Men’s Lacrosse Weekly Awards – April 29

RICHMOND, Va. (April 29, 2024) – The CAA has announced its men’s lacrosse weekly awards for the final week of the regular season. Towson sophomore attackman Joaquin Villagomez was named CAA Offensive Player of the Week, and Drexel junior goalkeeper Drew McGill earned CAA Defensive Player of the Week honors. In addition, Drexel freshman attack Witt Crawford received CAA Rookie of the Week recognition.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Joaquin Villagomez, Towson
Sophomore | Attack | Severna Park, Md. / Severna Park HS
Villagomez paced the Towson attack with five points on three goals and two assists, leading the Tigers to the CAA Regular Season title with an 11-10 victory over Delaware. The sophomore scored Towson’s first goal in the contest and assisted on the next score. His final three points came in the second half, recording two goals in the third quarter before assisting on the game-winning goal with 1:31 remaining. It marks the fourth straight hat trick for Villagomez, who has six this spring.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Drew McGill, Drexel
Junior | Goalkeeper | Mountain Brook, Ala. / The Hill School
McGill was stout between the pipes, recording 13 saves and posting a .765 save percentage, leading Drexel to a 6-4 win over Monmouth. The junior blanked the Hawks for the first 33 minutes in a must-win contest, turning away nine shots in the first half. McGill added four saves in the fourth quarter to secure the victory, allowing a season-low in goals and a season-high save percentage. It marks back-to-back games with double-digit saves and his 11th performance with 10 or more this spring.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Witt Crawford, Drexel
Freshman | Attack | Alexandria, Va. / St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes School
Crawford scored three of Drexel’s six goals, lifting the Dragons offensively in a 6-4 victory at Monmouth. The goal total matched a season-best for the freshman, who recorded his second career hat trick. Crawford gave the Dragons a 2-0 lead in the first quarter before scoring back-to-back goals in the third. The freshman’s final two goals were part of a 4-0 run that flipped a 3-2 deficit into a 6-3 lead for Drexel.
