CAA Outdoor Track & Field Weekly Awards – April 30

RICHMOND, Va. (April 30, 2024) – The CAA has announced its outdoor track and field weekly awards for the week beginning on April 22 and ending on April 28. On the women’s side, Elon junior Jette Beerman was named CAA Track Athlete of the Week, and William & Mary junior Liv Cantby earned CAA Field Athlete of the Week honors. For the men, North Carolina A&T freshman Jason Holmes shined en route to CAA Track Athlete of the Week accolades, and Campbell senior CJ McBride received CAA Field Athlete of the Week recognition.
WOMEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Jette Beerman, Elon
Junior |Distance | Rellingen, Germany, Johannes-Brahms Schule
Beerman won the 5000m at The Penn Relays, breaking the Elon program record in 15:42.30. The junior shattered the Phoenix record, running over 24 seconds faster than the previous mark. Her time is the second fastest in CAA history and ranks second in the league this season. In addition, Beerman ranks 12
th in the NCAA East Region and 25
th in the NCAA.
WOMEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Liv Cantby, William & Mary
Junior | Throws | Korsoer, Denmark
Cantby recorded a league-leading mark of 47.64m (156-03.00) in the javelin at the Virginia High-Performance meet. The junior finished runner-up at the competition with her season-best mark. Cantby has the only throw over 45 meters in the conference this season and her mark is over three meters further than the next best. Additionally, she ranks 24
th in the NCAA East Region and 65
th nationally this spring.
MEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Jason Holmes, North Carolina A&T
Freshman | Sprints / Hurdles | Baltimore, Md. / Calvert Hall College
Holmes broke the North Carolina A&T 110m hurdles program record with a league-leading time of 13.43 at The Penn Relays. After running 13.59 to qualify for the finals, the freshman posted a personal-best time to finish runner-up in the competition. The mark ranks fourth in the NCAA East Region and 13
th in the NCAA this season. Furthermore, his time was just .04 shy of the conference record established in 2004.
MEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
CJ McBride, Campbell
Senior | Jumps | Apex, N.C. / Apex HS
McBride matched his season-best clearance in the high jump at the East Coast Relays with an effort of 2.15m (7-00.5). The senior was one of two jumpers to clear the height in the meet, finishing runner-up in the competition on misses. The mark matches his league-leading mark – which he first established at the Raleigh Relays – ranking 11
th in the NCAA East Region and 22
nd nationally. McBride also competed in the triple jump, recording a mark of 15.01m (49-03.00) to place sixth.
