CAA Men's and Women's Tennis Weekly Awards - April 9

RICHMOND, Va. (April 9, 2024) – Elon sophomore Veljko Krstic and Campbell junior Damien Nezar shared CAA Men’s Tennis Player of the Week honors, while Delaware grad student Slade Coetzee and Elon senior Lizette Reding were honored as CAA Women’s Tennis Co-Players of the Week. UNCW’s Reece Falck and Harold Huens were chosen as the Men’s Doubles Team of the Week and Towson’s Chandre Boshoff and Lea Kosanovic were selected as the Women’s Doubles Team of the Week.
 
CAA Men’s Tennis Co-Player of the Week
Veljko Krstic, So., Elon (Belgrade, Serbia)
Krstic recorded a pair of three-set victories at No. 1 singles in Elon’s narrow 4-3 losses to Charlotte and No. 45 Liberty. The sophomore rallied past Charlotte’s Spencer Gray, 6-7 (9), 7-5, 6-4, and followed with another comeback victory against 102nd-ranked Rafael Marques Da Silva of Liberty, 1-6, 6-2, 7-5. Krstic is now 11-6 in singles, with seven wins at the No. 1 slot.

CAA Men’s Tennis Co-Player of the Week
Damien Nezar, Jr., Campbell (Eden, South Africa)
Nezar went 2-0 at No. 1 singles as Campbell split matches with UNCW (3-4) and Presbyterian (6-1). The junior battled past UNCW’s Harold Huens, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 and rolled over Presbyterian’s Javier Matos, 6-2, 6-2. Nezar and partner Tomas Balazi also clinched the doubles point vs. PC. Nezar has a 10-4 singles mark this season.

CAA Men’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
Reece Falck, Sr., UNCW (Christchurch, New Zealand)
Harold Huens, Jr., UNCW (Waterloo, Belgium)
Falck and Huens posted a 2-0 record at No. 1 doubles to help UNCW claim the doubles point in victories over Campbell (4-3) and South Carolina State (4-0) last week. The Seahawks duo topped Campbell’s Lukas Steffen and Benjamin Maes, 6-2, and clinched the point against SCSU by edging Aissa Benchakroun and Benjamin Niv, 7-6 (3). Falck and Huens improved to 13-1 as a team this season.

CAA Women’s Co-Tennis Player of the Week
Slade Coetzee, Gr., Delaware (Miami Beach, Fla.)
Coetzee turned in a pair of dominant performances at No. 1 singles in victories over NJIT (4-0) and William & Mary (4-3) last week. The grad student opened with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph against NJIT’s Laura Wipfli, before registering a 6-1, 6-0 win over reigning CAA Player of the Year Hedda Gurholdt of William & Mary. Coetzee helped the Blue Hens defeat the Tribe for the first time ever in 11 meetings.

CAA Women’s Co-Tennis Player of the Week
Lizette Reding, Sr., Elon (Leon, Mexico)
Reding registered a pair of impressive victories at No. 1 singles as Elon beat CAA foe UNCW (5-2) before falling to No. 67 VCU (2-5). The senior clinched the match against the Seahawks by battling past UNCW’s Eda Arli, 7-5, 7-5. Against the nationally ranked Rams, she rallied past Yelizaveta Karlova, 5-7, 6-4, 4-1 ret. Reding improved to 7-1 at the No. 1 position and leads Elon with 13 singles victories this season.

CAA Women’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
Chandre Boshoff, Fr., Towson (George, South Africa)
Lea Kosanovic, Sr., Towson (Bethesda, Md.)
Boshoff and Kosanovic went 2-0 at No. 1 doubles as Towson split matches against William & Mary (0-7) and Mount St. Mary’s (5-2). The Tigers tandem defeated W&M’s Yu Chen and Emma Fernald, 6-3. They followed by overcoming three set points to edge MSM’s Sofia Kostirko and Riya Mathur, 7-5. Boshoff and Kosanovic moved to 6-3 as a team this season.
