CAA Outdoor Track & Field Weekly Awards – April 9

RICHMOND, Va. (April 9, 2024) – The CAA has announced its outdoor track and field weekly awards for the week beginning on April 1 and ending on April 7. North Carolina A&T hurdlers Lucheyona Weaver and Jason Holmes earned CAA Track Athlete of the Week honors on the women’s and men’s side, respectively. In addition, Hampton thrower Oluwatomilayo Akintunde earned women’s CAA Field Athlete of the Week accolades, and William & Mary thrower Jason Nwosu received men’s CAA Field Athlete of the Week recognition. 
 
WOMEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Lucheyona Weaver, North Carolina A&T
Junior | Sprints / Hurdles | Fort Myers, Fla. / Dunbar
Weaver won the 100m hurdles at the VertKlasse Meeting with a league-leading and personal-best time of 13.11. The effort broke the meet and stadium records while ranking eighth in the NCAA East Region and 17th nationally. The junior also recorded a personal-best 11.74 in the 100m dash, finishing fourth, and helped North Carolina A&T to a third-place finish in the 4x100m relay, running 46.07. 
 
WOMEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Oluwatomilayo Akintunde, Hampton
Junior | Throws | Hardyston, N.J. / Wallkill HS
Akintunde broke the Hampton program record by recording a league-leading mark in the hammer throw at the Colonial Relays. The junior finished second in the competition with a mark of 59.05m (193-09.00). Her personal-best throw ranks 25th in the NCAA East Region and 50th in the country. In addition, Akintunde participated in the shot put, recording a season-best mark of 12.91m (42-04.25). 
 
MEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Jason Holmes, North Carolina A&T
Freshman | Sprints / Hurdles | Baltimore, Md. / Calvert Hall College
Holmes ran a top-15 time in the NCAA with a season-best performance in the 110m hurdles at the VertKlasse Meeting. The freshman was the top collegiate finisher in the competition, running 13.57 (w), trailing only Daniel Roberts – the 2019 USA and NCAA 110m hurdles champion. Holmes’ time ranks second in the CAA, eighth in the NCAA East Region and 14th nationally this spring. Additionally, Holmes ran the second leg on A&T’s winning 4x100m relay team, running a season-best 40.03. The time sits second in the conference, 24th in the NCAA East Region and 53rd in the NCAA. 
 
MEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Jason Nwosu, William & Mary
Sophomore | Throws | Franklinville, N.J. / Delsea Regional 
Nwosu competed in three events at the Colonial Relays, winning the shot put while finishing fourth in the hammer throw and eighth in the discus. The sophomore established a new league lead in the shot put with his winning throw of 17.67m (57-11.75) – a personal best for Nwosu, which ranks 34th in the NCAA East Region and 65th in the country. He recorded a mark of 54.90m (180-01.00) in the hammer throw – the second-best mark in the CAA this season – and finished the competition by throwing 44.73m (146-09.00) in the discus.
