NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. (April 9, 2024) –Stony Brook women’s lacrosse junior
Avery Hines has been named the IWLCA Defensive Player of the Week for her performance last weekend.
Hines recorded a career-best six caused turnovers while adding three ground balls as No. 15 Stony Brook stymied Delaware, 17-4. The junior from Maryland’s six CTs were the most by a Seawolf since Haley Dillon in 2022 and tied for second in a game in program history behind Danielle Werner’s seven in 2003.
Stony Brook heads into the week with the nation’s No. 4 scoring defense (7.83) and scoring margin (8.17) while sitting at 10-2 on the year on a five-game winning streak. The Seawolves hold a win over No. 2 Syracuse and their two setbacks have been by a combined total of three goals to a pair of top-15 teams.
Hines is the third CAA player to earn a national weekly award from the IWLCA this spring, joining teammate
Ellie Masera, who was Offensive Player of the Week on February 27, and Delaware defender
Madison Hranicka, who was Defensive Player of the Week on February 13. The CAA has collected at least a share of a national Player of the Week from the coaches’ association six times in the last two seasons in addition to two weekly honors from USA Lacrosse Magazine, including one by Masera in 2024.
