CAA Men’s Golf Champion Charleston, At-Large Selections from Campbell, UNCW Head to NCAA Regionals

The top five teams in each regional and the top individual not on those teams will advance to the NCAA National Championship at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California, on May 24-29.
Charleston is the No. 9 seed in the 13-team regional hosted by No. 5 seed Purdue. The Cougars and Boilermakers are joined at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex by Vanderbilt, Arizona, Florida, New Mexico, San Diego State, Mississippi State, Indiana, Stetson, Colorado State, Southern Illinois, and Tennessee Tech and individuals from Valparaiso, Michigan, Wisconsin, Toledo, Illinois State, Middle Tennessee, Cincinnati, Western Kentucky, and Rider.
Charleston earned the CAA’s automatic qualifier to NCAA Regionals with a tournament-record performance at the CAA Men’s Golf Championship at Dataw Island in late April. The Cougars were 35-under for the tournament, breaking their own tournament best by five shots, to win the tournament by seven strokes on the Cotton Dike Course.
Charleston will be in an NCAA Regional for the third time in the last four years. The Cougars’ last appearance in Regional play came in 2022 when Charleston finished fifth in Palm Beach Gardens to advance to Grayhawk.
Kieron van Wyk and
Nevill Ruiter finished in the top 10 in that Regional.
Isley and Johansson will play as individuals in Chapel Hill as at-large selections for their performance in 2023-24. Isley was the top-ranked individual in the CAA in the regular season, while Johansson was third. The duo will face team qualifiers from North Carolina, Alabama, Georgia Tech, ETSU, Northwestern, Baylor, VCU, LMU, Long Beach State, Clemson, Michigan State, Ball State, and Howard along with individuals from Mercer, NC State, Charlotte, Davidson, Kennesaw State, Longwood, and High Point. The CAA has earned at least one individual at-large qualifier for the seventh time in the last eight tournaments.
