EUGENE, Ore. (June 4, 2024)
– Thirteen CAA Track and Field student-athletes, including eight individual qualifiers and two relays, will compete on the national stage at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships this week.

The four-day event begins on Wednesday, June 5, at Historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., on the campus of the University of Oregon. The competition commences with the men’s 4x100m relay at 7:32 p.m. on June 5 and concludes with the women’s 4x400m relay at 7:51 p.m. on Saturday, June 8.

Wednesday and Thursday will be the semifinals for running events for the men and women, respectively. The top nine qualifiers from each running event and the top 12 for the 1500m and 3000m steeplechase will advance to the finals on Friday and Saturday. All field events will be competed as finals, along with the 5000m and 10K.

On the men’s side, the seven National Championship berths match last year’s total – the most for the conference since 1997. The Miller brothers from Campbell, Jamal and Jamel, qualified in the 100 and 400 meters, respectively, while teaming up with Dominique Alexander and De’Shawn Ballard in the 4x400m relay. Their teammate, C.J. McBride, will compete in the high jump as the lone field event competitor across the conference. North Carolina A&T sends hurdles Jason Holmes and Thomas Smith in the 110’s, with Holmes joining Caleb Jackson, Aveon Reid and Isaiah Taylor in the 4x100m relay. Additionally, Alexander Korczynski of Northeastern and Carlos Santos of Stony Brook will toe the line in the 3000m steeplechase.

The men’s Fighting Camels will be at the National Championship for the ninth straight season. The Millers and Alexander are back for consecutive seasons after advancing in the 4x1 last spring, while McBride and Ballard are making their NCAA Championship debuts. It marks the first individual appearance for the Millers after both set PRs in their respective events at the East Prelims, including a CAA record by Jamal in the 100m (10.15). It was the first of two conference records the Campbell men set at Regionals, posting a time of 3:01.91 in 4x4.

The Aggies will send men to NCAAs for the 10th year in a row. Jackson – who competed on the 4x4 last season – is the lone returner, competing on the 4x1 this spring. After redshirting last outdoor season, Holmes was a Second Team All-American Indoors in the 60m hurdles. He ran the second-fastest 110m hurdle time (13.40) in CAA history to advance to his first Outdoor Championship. Smith also had an impressive PR (13.65) to qualify alongside his teammate, joining Reid and Taylor wearing the blue and gold at Nationals for the first time.

After missing last season due to injury, Korczynski returned to qualify for his third NCAA Championship in the past four seasons. The graduate student is the first CAA student-athlete to advance to Nationals three times since David Verburg of George Mason from 2011-2013. Additionally, he is the fourth Northeastern student-athlete in program history to reach NCAAs three times and makes it four straight seasons the Huskies will be at the National Championship.

Santos made history for the Seawolves, becoming the first male in program history to advance to the NCAA Championship. It also marks the first time since 1996 that the CAA will have multiple student-athletes in two events at the NCAA Championship.

Dominique Biron of Northeastern is the lone competitor on the women’s side, participating in the heptathlon on Friday and Saturday. Biron was an automatic qualifier after posting a lifetime-best mark of 5,699 points on April 12 – the 17th-best mark in the NCAA this season. The senior will make her NCAA Championship debut in Euguene and become the first female to represent Northeastern at Nationals since 2007.
