CAA Outdoor Track & Field Weekly Awards – May 7

RICHMOND, Va. (May 7, 2024) – The CAA has announced its final outdoor track and field weekly awards for the 2024 season. On the women’s side, North Carolina A&T junior Fajr Kelly was named CAA Track Athlete of the Week, and Monmouth junior Veronica Chainov earned CAA Field Athlete of the Week recognition. For the men, Hampton freshman Antoine Spencer was tabbed CAA Track Athlete of the Week, and Monmouth senior Taylor Boorse collected CAA Field Athlete of the Week honors.
 
WOMEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Fajr Kelly, North Carolina A&T
Junior |Distance | Washington, D.C. / Theodore Roosevelt Senior HS
Kelly won the 800m at the Aggie Invitational with a season-best time of 2:07.18. Her time ranks third in the CAA this season but is just nine one thousandths off the league lead heading into the conference championship. In addition, the mark ranks 82nd in the NCAA East Region.
 
WOMEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Veronica Chainov, Monmouth
Junior | Jumps | Beer Sheva, Israel / Mekif Gimel HS
Chainov reset the Monmouth program record in the high jump by winning the event at the Kehoe Twilight Meet. The junior cleared 1.83m (6-00.00) en route to victory – the best mark in the conference this spring. Chainov’s personal-best mark ranks sixth in the NCAA East Region and 15th nationally this spring. In addition, it is the highest clearance for a CAA student-athlete since 2015.
 
MEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Antoine Spencer, Hampton
Freshman | Sprints | Waldorf, Md. / North Point HS 
Spencer ran a personal-best 20.66 in the 200m at the Aggie Invitational. The freshman placed second overall and was the top collegiate finisher. His time ranks second in the CAA this season, 37th in the NCAA East Region and 56th in the country.
 
MEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Taylor Boorse, Monmouth
R-Junior | Throws | Ringwood, N.J. / Lakeland Regional 
Boorse won the javelin with a personal-best mark at the Kehoe Twilight Meet. The senior recorded a winning mark of 68.67m (225-03.00). The throw was over one meter better than his previous personal-best toss and ranks third in the CAA this spring. Additionally, the mark ranks 23rd in the NCAA East Region and 46th nationally.
