RICHMOND, Va. (May 10, 2024) – Three honorees who extended their seasons into NCAA Regional play highlight the awards for the 2023-24 CAA Men’s Golf season.
UNCW senior
Walker Isley was voted by the league’s coaches as CAA Golfer of the Year, while Campbell freshman
Erik Johansson collected Rookie of the Year honors in his first season of collegiate competition. Charleston’s
Mitch Krywulycz is CAA Coach of the Year after leading the Cougars to their third CAA title in the last four seasons.
Isley was in the top 10 in seven tournaments in 2023-24, including his first four to open the season. The senior from North Carolina was the runner-up at the Gopher Invitational and Daniel Island Intercollegiate to help put together a resume that garnered NCAA Regional individual at-large status. Isley will play in the Chapel Hill Regional next week. He is the seventh Seahawk to be named CAA Golfer of the Year.
Johansson led the Camels in their first year in the CAA, finishing in the top 15 in six events, including a top-10 place at the CAA Championship and winning the UNCW Seahawk Intercollegiate. Johansson will represent Campbell in as an individual in the Chapel Hill regional and gives the Camels a sweep of Golf Rookie of the Year awards in their first year in the league;
Alicia Olsson was named the CAA Women’s Golf Rookie of the Year.
Krywulycz is CAA Coach of the Year for the third time in four years after leading Charleston to another CAA title with a record performance. The Cougars shot 35-under at Dataw in April to win the Championship by seven shots and are ranked No. 52 in the nation entering NCAA Regional play in West Lafayette, Indiana, on Monday.
The five All-CAA first-team selections hail from four different teams, as Charleston’s
Zach Reuland and
Kieron van Wyk – the co-medalists at the CAA Championship - are joined by Isley, Johansson, and Elon’s
Garrett Risner.
Charleston placed two more competitors on the All-CAA second team, as Cougars
Loran Appel and
Max Dupree are accompanied on the list by Drexel’s
Drue Nicholas, Elon’s
Jack Wieler, and UNCW’s
Patrick Sparks.
The 10 All-CAA selections hail from five different countries with six from the United States and one each from The Netherlands, Peru, South Africa, and Sweden.
