RICHMOND, Va. (June 20, 2024) – Northeastern graduate student Alexander Korczynski and Campbell senior C.J. McBride collected top honors in the reveal of CAA Men’s Track and Field postseason awards as voted on by the league’s head coaches.

Korczynski earned CAA Track Athlete of the Year accolades, and McBride was named CAA Field Athlete of the Year. In addition, North Carolina A&T redshirt freshman Jason Holmes received CAA Rookie of the Year recognition, and Tramaine Shaw of Northeastern was tabbed as the CAA Coach of the Year by her peers.

Korczynski collected his second CAA Track Athlete of the Year of his career. The graduate distance runner earned First Team All-America honors by finishing eighth in the 3000m steeplechase at the NCAA Championship. Korczynski broke the conference and 47-year-old Northeastern program record in the event, running 8:29.42 in the National Final. That performance came after placing fourth (8:35.78) at the NCAA East Prelims to become the first CAA student-athlete to qualify for the NCAA Championships three times since 2011-13. In addition, Korczynski became the first four-time CAA Champion in the 3000m steeplechase in league history and finished runner-up in the 5000m at the conference championship.

McBride became the first Campbell major award winner indoors and is now the first outdoors, sweeping CAA Field Athlete of the Year for both seasons. The senior captured Second Team All-America accolades after placing 10th in the high jump (2.17m) at the NCAA Championship. He was the first CAA qualifier in the event since 2005 after winning the high jump (2.17m) at the NCAA East Prelims. Additionally, McBride was the lone CAA student-athlete to qualify for regionals in multiple field events – also competing in the triple. McBride was named the Most Outstanding Field Performer of the CAA Championships, winning the high jump and triple jump while finishing runner-up in the long jump. His season-best clearance of 2.19m (7-02.25) in the high jump at the conference championship set a meet record and was the best mark by a CAA student-athlete since 1994.

Holmes is the second straight major award winner for the Aggies, winning CAA Rookie of the Year in his first outdoor season after receiving the honor following the 2023 indoor season. The redshirt freshman earned All-America honorable mention in the 110m hurdles and the distinction of Second Team All-America on the A&T 4x100m relay team. Holmes placed 18th in the 110m hurdles (13.71) at the NCAA Championship after helping the Aggies to a 16th-place effort in the 4x1 (39.59). He advanced to Nationals by running an A&T program record 13.40 in the hurdles at regionals – the second-fastest time in conference history. In addition, Holmes was the CAA Champion in the 110 hurdles, breaking the meet record with a time of 13.48, and earned All-CAA honors in the 200m (20.89).

Shaw collects her sixth straight CAA Men’s Track and Field Coach of the Year accolades. She led the Huskies to a conference record ninth consecutive CAA Outdoor Track and Field team title. Under Shaw’s guidance, Northeastern tallied 11 All-CAA finishes, including three gold medalists. Furthermore, the Huskies had four individual qualifiers for the NCAA East Preliminary - and Korczynski advanced to Nationals, marking the fourth straight season Shaw has coached a student-athlete to the NCAA Championship.
