KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Aug. 6, 2024) – Three Monmouth soccer defenders – two men’s and one women’s – were named to United Soccer Coaches’ Preseason Watch List at the position on Tuesday.
Men’s defenders
Olle Brorsson and
Gabe Dahlin, along with reigning CAA Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Year
Lauren Bruno, earned spots on the preseason lists released by the coaches’ association.
Brorsson
took home USC Second Team All-Region accolades after earning Third Team All-CAA honors in 2023. He started 16 matches last fall and helped the Hawks hold 14 opponents in that stretch to one goal or less. Brorsson played a key role in five of Monmouth's shutouts this season. He scored the first two goals of his career to lift the Hawks to a 2-0 win at Stony Brook. He was named the CAA Defensive Player of the Week and to Top Drawer Soccer and College Soccer News Team of the Week for his efforts in that contest.
Dahlin earned USC Second Team All-Region for the first time in his career after being a First Team All-CAA selection last fall. He was a key cog in the defensive unit for the Hawks. He started all 18 matches and helped the Hawks hold 16 of 18 opponents to one goal or less, including seven shutouts. Dahlin also tallied the first two goals of his Monmouth career as he scored at Delaware and against Northeastern.
Bruno had a stellar fall for the Hawks as she was named Second Team All-Region by the USC, the CAA Defensive Player of the Year, First Team All-CAA and First Team All-ECAC. Bruno started 18 games while leading the Hawks. Bruno keyed a defensive unit that posted 11 shutouts, including seven straight to start CAA play. She and the Monmouth defense held 14 opponents to one goal or less on the scoreboard. Bruno took a lot of the free kicks for the Hawks and registered a career-high three assists this season.
