The Weekend Preview – Sept. 12, 2024

RICHMOND, Va. (Sept. 12, 2024) – The second weekend of conference play in men’s soccer and the final full weekend of non-conference play in three other sports highlights the weekend calendar.

Men’s Soccer
Week two of conference play begins for CAA members with 10 schools facing off on Saturday afternoon.

William & Mary host the lone out-of-conference matchup on Friday (7 p.m.) when they welcome Penn to Williamsburg.

Saturday’s five-game schedule is full of CAA matchups with Charleston at Stony Brook, Northeastern at Drexel, and UNCW at No. 16 Hofstra off at 1 p.m. on FloFC. No. 20 Elon travel to Delaware (2 p.m., FloFC), and Monmouth plays Campbell in the final game of the afternoon.

Field Hockey
One week remains before the start of CAA field hockey conference play and the schedule is jam-packed with high-profile opponents.
 
The weekend schedule starts Friday afternoon and is headlined by two ranked opponents, as William & Mary faces off against No. 12 Liberty (3 p.m.), while Northeastern travels to No. 10 Syracuse (4 p.m., ACCNX). Towson and Monmouth have home matches against Georgetown and Rider respectively, while Hofstra travels to Sacred Heart to round out the evening.

One game is on the docket for Saturday with Delaware traveling to Iowa for a game with UNH (2 p.m.)

Sunday’s slate includes two more ranked opponents with Drexel Traveling to No. 19 UAlbany (12 p.m., FloLive) and Delaware taking on No. 6 Iowa. (1 p.m., B1G+). Towson hosts Queens Charlotte and Hofstra welcomes Long Island on CAA turf at 1 p.m. on FloLive. William & Mary stays on the road to play James Madison (1 p.m.) and Northeastern finishes the week with a Massachusetts clash against Holy Cross (3 p.m., ESPN+).

Women’s Soccer
The final weekend of non-conference play for 12 of 13 teams is highlighted by a Thursday slate that includes a visit to an ACC member and a regionally televised contest.
 
William & Mary heads to NC State (6 p.m., ACCNX), as the Tribe aims to be the second CAA member to pick off the Wolfpack this fall after Campbell did it in August. Drexel will visit Princeton (7 p.m., ESPN+, NBCSP), while Towson (vs. Saint Joseph’s) and Hofstra (vs. FDU) are home on FloFC. Stony Brook heads to UMass Lowell, UNCW visits VCU, and Elon is at Gardner-Webb.
 
Hampton hosts a non-Division I opponent on Friday and Sunday’s slate sees four league members at home, beginning at 1 p.m., when Delaware, Northeastern, and Charleston host games on FloFC. Stony Brook, Hofstra, and Monmouth hit the road and Elon closes out the night at home against High Point (7 p.m., FloFC).
 
Volleyball
The final non-conference weekend will feature five league members hosting tournaments, as Towson, Campbell, UNCW, and Charleston begin their invitational play Friday. It will be the second home weekend for three of the four, while Campbell continues a stretch of six straight in Buies Creek after beginning the year with six on the road and Delaware plays its home opener.
 
N.C. A&T begins play in Georgia Southern’s event on Thursday, while the remainder of the league opens weekend events around the country on Friday aside from Hampton, which will play Saturday/Sunday. Hampton and Charleston will play midweek competition on Tuesday, with Charleston’s crosstown clash against Charleston Southern on FloVolleyball (7 p.m.).
 
Cross Country
Six CAA cross country programs will be in action over the upcoming weekend.
 
Charleston is at App State for the Firetower Project Run, Hampton and William & Mary will run in Christopher Newport’s event, Monmouth heads to Penn State, Stony Brook will head to the Hudson Valley for an event hosted by Manhattan, and Towson is at Delaware State.
 
Golf
Seven women’s programs will play across three tournaments, while multiple men’s fields also include multiple CAA teams in the upcoming week.
 
In women’s action, Elon hosts a tournament in Burlington and will host N.C. A&T and William & Mary., Delaware and Towson will head to Penn State, and Hofstra and Monmouth play in Rehoboth Beach, Del.
 
On the men’s side, Campbell and N.C. A&T are at NC State’s event, Delaware will play in Davidson’s tournament, Drexel is at Western Carolina’s event, and Hofstra opens the year at Bethpage and is joined by Towson.
