Four CAA Student-Athletes Selected in 2024 NLL Draft

TORONTO (Sep. 16, 2024) - Four CAA student-athletes were selected in the 2024 National Lacrosse League’s (NLL) Draft, held Sunday evening in Toronto. The NLL is a professional men’s lacrosse box league with 15 teams across the United States and Canada. The indoor league begins in December and ends in April.
 
Comprised of six rounds and 86 picks, two CAA conference members had alumni selected, with Delaware having a league-high three selections. Towson also had one player taken in round four.
 
Delaware’s Matt Acchione was selected 16th overall by the Saskatchewan Rush. The Ontario native appeared in 34 games for the Blue Hens, notching 25 goals and 11 assists between 2021 and 2024. 
 
Delaware’s JP Ward was picked 28th overall by the Albany Firewolves. Ward had a highly decorated CAA career including a First Team All-CAA appearance in three out of his four collegiate seasons. He played four seasons for Delaware, tallying 110 goals and 112 assists in 62 games.
 
Cam Acchione was the third and final Blue Hen to be drafted, after being picked 39th overall by the San Diego Seals. Acchione recorded 75 goals and 32 assists in 62 games for Delaware during his collegiate career.
 
Entering the fourth round, Towson’s Austin Ducommun was taken 48th overall by the Calgary Roughnecks.  The midfielder scored seven goals and tacked on six assists during his collegiate career.
