The Weekend Preview – Sept. 19, 2024

RICHMOND, Va. (Sept. 19, 2024) – Conference play gets into full swing among the CAA’s fall sports with women’s soccer, field hockey, and volleyball joining the mix.

Women’s Soccer
All 13 CAA women’s soccer teams begin their 10-game conference schedules with eight teams opening league play Thursday and the other five as part of Sunday’s schedule.
 
William & Mary – winners of five of its last six – will open the CAA schedule with a Thursday matinee in Norfolk against Hampton (12 p.m., FloFC), while defending champion Towson heads to Drexel (6 p.m., FloFC), Campbell visits UNCW (7 p.m., FloFC), and Charleston – ranking fifth in the nation in goals, assists, and points – is at Hofstra (7 p.m., FloFC). Northeastern closes out non-conference play at home against Brown (6 p.m., FloFC).
 
All but Towson will be in action on Sunday. Charleston finishes its Long Island swing at Stony Brook (12 p.m., FloFC), followed by a 1 p.m. docket of UNCW-William & Mary, Elon-Northeastern, Drexel-Monmouth, and Hofstra-Delaware, with all on FloFC. Hampton visits Campbell (4 p.m.) to close out the weekend.

Men’s Soccer
The CAA features three teams ranked in this week’s United Soccer Coaches poll with another receiving votes. No. 14 Elon kicks off the weekend’s action with a matchup against Stony Brook (12 p.m.) and No. 23 Charleston plays at home for the second-straight game when they welcome Delaware to South Carolina (12 p.m.). No 12 Hofstra takes the short trip to Monmouth for a late-night matchup (7 p.m.). William & Mary will play Northeastern (1 p.m.), and Drexel faces UNCW (2 p.m.) to fill out Saturday’s schedule with all games streaming on FloFC. Campbell – receiving votes in this week’s coaches poll – will have the Saturday bye.

Field Hockey
Conference play is finally upon us, as a mixture of CAA matchups and out-of-conference opponents fill out this weekend’s field hockey slate.

Monmouth against Hofstra and Delaware vs. Towson open CAA play with both games starting at 3 p.m. on FloLive. Northeastern plays Drexel (4 p.m., FloLive) and William & Mary travels to D.C. to play American in non-conference action (4 p.m., ESPN+).

Sunday’s schedule is jam-packed with non-conference opponents. Drexel, Northeastern, and William & Mary play at home against Penn, VCU, and Villanova respectively at 12 p.m. Delaware stays on the road to play American (1 p.m., ESPN+), Monmouth takes the trip to Columbia (1 p.m., ESPN+) and Hofstra takes on Wagner to round out the week’s action (1 p.m., NEC Front Row).
Volleyball
CAA play opens Friday night with two rivalry matches, as N.C. A&T opens its series at Hampton (6 p.m., FloVolleyball) and Stony Brook hosts Hofstra (6:31 p.m., FloVolleyball).
 
The rest of the league gets underway on Saturday, with Charleston at Elon (12 p.m., FloVolleyball), defending champion Delaware heading to Campbell (1 p.m.), UNCW up at Northeastern (2 p.m., FloVolleyball), and 9-1 Towson hosting William & Mary (6 p.m., FloVolleyball). The N.C. A&T-Hampton (3 p.m.) and Hofstra-Stony Brook (6 p.m.) series wrap up with matches on FloVolleyball.
 
The first weekend of the CAA schedule wraps up Sunday with a four-match afternoon schedule. Charleston-Elon (FloVolleyball) and Delaware-Campbell will start at 1 p.m., while the first serves of UNCW-Northeastern and William & Mary will be at 2 p.m. on FloVolleyball.
 
Cross Country
Towson joins host Delaware at the Delaware Invitational, which takes place on Friday at White Clay Creek State Park. Also on Friday, Elon and UNCW compete at the adidas XC Challenge in Cary, N.C. Northeastern is in action on Saturday at the UMass Dartmouth Invite.
 
Golf
On the men’s side, Elon is in Ireland to finish out the Lyon Links event in Galway, Hofstra and Monmouth play the Ryan T. Lee Memorial in Connecticut, Drexel will face Temple, UNCW will take part in the Rod Myers Invitational in Durham, and William & Mary plays the Naval Academy Golf Club.
 
In women’s action, Elon is in Asheboro for the Tot Hill Farm Invitational, Delaware plays the Mary Fossum Invitational in Michigan, Monmouth heads to Massachusetts for the Red Bandanna Invitational, and UNCW visits Furman for the Paladin Invitational. Campbell will play a Tuesday/Wednesday event at Texas Tech.
