RICHMOND, Va. (September 3, 2024) – The CAA has announced its first Runners of the Week for the 2024 cross country season. Hampton freshman
Peninah Mutisaya was chosen as the Women’s Runner of the Week, while North Carolina A&T senior
Kylan Willis was selected as the Men’s Runner of the Week.
WOMEN’S RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Peninah Mutisya, Hampton
Freshman | Kitui, Kenya
In her first collegiate race, Mutisaya placed second out of 175 runners at the Spider Alumni Open. The freshman crossed the line in a time of 13:35.2 in the 4K race, finishing behind only Gillian Bushee of 17
th-ranked Virginia by 4.1 seconds. It was the best finish by a Hampton runner in an event since 2018.
MEN’S RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Kylan Willis, North Carolina A&T
Senior | Philadelphia, Pa.
Willis opened the season with a second-place finish in North Carolina A&T dual meet against ACC member Duke. The senior posted a time of 14:43.4 in the 7K race, trailing winner Matthew Farrell of Duke by 11.4 seconds, but outpacing the Blue Devils’ next two runners by five and 24 seconds.
