The Weekend Preview – Sept. 5, 2024

RICHMOND, Va. (Sept. 5, 2024) – Conference play begins for eight teams in CAA men’s soccer, while non-league opportunities await teams in numerous other fall sports, and league members in golf tee off their fall seasons.

Men’s Soccer 
League play begins this weekend for eight teams around the league, while the other three CAA teams will have another week to prepare for their conference openers.

Charleston starts the weekend off with a Friday night contest against Longwood (7 p.m., FloFC) before CAA matchups begin Saturday afternoon. 

Two out-of-conference matchups start the day with Delaware and UNCW on the road to ETSU and Le Moyne respectively. Campbell travels to Northeastern (1 p.m., FloFC/NESN+),  Drexel takes on Elon (2. p.m.), No. 24 Hofstra faces off with William & Mary (5 p.m.) and Stony Brook plays Monmouth in the final game of the evening (7 p.m., FloFC).

Women’s Soccer
The penultimate weekend of non-conference play for most teams features a high-profile in-state clash leads into a quality weekend schedule.
 
Thursday’s seven games are highlighted by Towson – which grabbed a draw against Florida on Sunday on a goal with seconds remaining – welcoming in Maryland (7 p.m., FloFC). Delaware and William & Mary will also be home against local foes, with the Blue Hens – coming off a road win at Richmond – hosting Penn (6 p.m., FloFC) and William & Mary – winners of three straight – hosting that Richmond team in Williamsburg (7 p.m., FloFC).
 
Sunday’s schedule starts early with William & Mary hosting a Princeton side receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches poll with five games throughout the afternoon and evening on FloFC. Stony Brook hosts Le Moyne in a Monday matinee (3 p.m., FloFC) and Hampton is at Longwood on Tuesday.
 
Field Hockey
The second week of the 2024 CAA field hockey season features a few high-profile out-of-conference opponents.
 
Friday’s seven-game schedule is headlined by undefeated Monmouth hosting No. 9 Rutgers (3 p.m. FloLive) and rounded out with Delaware traveling to Bucknell (6 p.m. ESPN+). Hofstra, Northeastern, and Drexel all hit the road for out-of-conference matchups, while Towson and William & Mary host home games.
 
Saturday’s lone contest sees Hofstra stay on the road and travel to Central Michigan (2 p.m.).
Sunday’s slate is filled with six non-conference games, the biggest being No. 16 Penn State traveling to Delaware (12 p.m. FloLive).  Towson, Drexel, and William & Mary are all live on FloLive in addition to a road trip with Monmouth taking the trip to James Madison. Northeastern round out the weekend with a trip to Stanford (3 p.m., ACCNX).
Volleyball
The second week of the CAA volleyball season features another 37 matches from Thursday through Wednesday with clashes against the ACC, Big Ten, and SEC.
 
The week begins on Thursday with a trip for N.C. A&T – which opened the season by sweeping NC Central twice – visiting East Carolina. A 15-game Friday slate starts at noon with Towson – a league-leading 4-0 – beginning play in Charlotte and will be followed by Stony Brook (3-0) starting up Colgate’s tournament. Northeastern, Charleston, and Elon will begin tournaments that can be seen on FloVolleyball before the last match of the night sees Delaware visit Iowa – its second Big Ten opponent in three contests – to face the Hawkeyes (7:30 p.m., B1G+).
 
A busy Saturday schedule will include Hofstra - which swept Wake Forest in Winston-Salem in its season opener - closing out a two-match set in Charlottesville against host Virginia (12 p.m., ACCNX) and seven matches on FloVolleyball for Elon, Charleston, William & Mary, and Northeastern. The Huskies and Stony Brook will close out their events on Sunday. Campbell and Elon will play home matches Tuesday on FloVolleyball while Charleston visits South Carolina; Hofstra hosts Binghamton on Wednesday on FloVolleyball.
 
Cross Country
Seven CAA cross country programs are in action this weekend. Campbell and UNCW will compete in the Seahawks’ Wilmington Beach Blast on Friday, while Friday’s Elon Opener will include the host Phoenix and North Carolina A&T. Monmouth will also be in action on Friday as it heads to Princeton for the New Jersey Jam. On Saturday, Hofstra heads to the LIU Fall Festival and the Hampton women’s teams will run at the Cantello Invitational in Annapolis, Md.
 
Golf
The fall season gets into full swing with teams in action throughout the weekend and into the early stages of next week. 
 
On the women’s side, Campbell – which finished second in a one-day event at Clemson in early August – will play the Golfweek Fall Challenge on Pawleys Island and be joined by UNCW, Charleston and William & Mary open the year at home, Delaware is on to Wisconsin to begin the year, Hofstra heads across the Sound to Milford, Conn., and Towson opens Friday at Bucknell.
 
In men’s action, Campbell and Elon will head to Myrtle Beach for Coastal Carolina’s event, Charleston will be involved in two events with trips to Knoxville and Toledo, Delaware and William & Mary in Greensboro for UNCG’s tournament, N.C. A&T will play in the men’s side of the Golfweek event, UNCW visits Minnesota, and Towson will play a tournament co-hosted by San Francisco and Howard in Rockville, Md.
