CAA MEN'S BASKETBALL WEEKLY RELEASE - JAN. 13

AND THEN THERE WAS ONE... 
William & Mary moved to 4-0 in league play following its 81-78 victory at North Carolina A&T. The unblemished record was preserved after Keller Boothby knocked down a buzzer-beating 3-pointer from center court to knock off the Aggies. The Tribe opened CAA play with two road wins for just the third time in program history and is 4-0 for the first time since 2019-20.

ROAD WARRIORS
Seven of the 13 games in the second full week of conference play were won by the road team. Delaware produced 98 points in its win at N.C. A&T on Thursday night, the most by any team in league play thus far. The visiting team combined to score 73.4 points while the host school posted 71.5 points per contest through last week’s games.

STOPS ON STOPS ON STOPS
Hofstra ranks eighth nationally in field goal percentage defense (37.2%) and Elon is close behind at 38.0%, which ranks 11th. Drexel ranks 23rd nationally in 3-point defense at 28.5%.

CHECKING THE POLLS
Charleston moved to No. 17 in this week’s CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 poll. UNCW is receiving votes for the 10th straight week. Elon, Hofstra and William & Mary also received votes.

THREE’S COMPANY
Monmouth’s Abdi Bashir, Jr. leads the nation with 67 three-pointers made, while North Carolina A&T’s Landon Glasper is 7th with 58, and both Elon’s Nick Dorn and W&M’s Gabe Dorsey are tied for 24th with 51. As a team, William & Mary ranks 6th with 11.4 treys made per game.
On Saturday alone, there were a combined 108 made 3-pointers in six games. Five teams - Charleston (13), Hofstra (12), N.C. A&T (10), UNCW (10) and William & Mary (11) - produced 10 or more triples in their respective games.
 
CAMPBELL CAMELS (7-9; 2-1 CAA)
  • Jasin Sinani registered a 21-point, seven-rebound effort in a win over Hampton. He’s tallied double figures in 11 of the last 14 contests.
  • Through three conference games, the Camels have held the opposition to a league-leading 22.1% mark from behind the arc (15-68 3FG).
  • Campbell is shooting a CAA-best 78.4% from the free throw line, good for 17th in NCAA Div. I.
 
CHARLESTON COUGARS (13-4; 3-1 CAA)
  • Ante Brzovic is averaging 17.8 points and 9.3 rebounds per game through four conference games.
  • CJ Fulton logged 12 assists against the Pride and another seven against Monmouth. He ranks second in NCAA Div. I with a 4.45 assist-to-turnover ratio and 17th with 6.1 helpers per game.
  • The Cougars have won nine of its last 11 games.
 
DELAWARE BLUE HENS (9-8; 2-2 CAA)
  • John Camden registered his sixth 20-point effort of the season with 20 points at Hampton on Saturday. He has scored in double figures in seven straight games, averaging 19.9 points over that stretch.
  • Delaware logged 24+ assists for the fourth time this season, earning 24 helpers on Thursday against North Carolina A&T.
  • The Blue Hens pace the conference with a 47.3 percent shooting clip from the floor and a 38.1 mark from distance.
 
DREXEL DRAGONS (10-7; 2-2 CAA)
  • Yame Butler has reached double figures in all but two starts this season following a 21-point, four-steal effort against Towson.
  • Three of the conference’s top six efficient shooters in CAA play come from Drexel - Cole Hargrove (58.3%, 1st), Butler (52.6%, 5th)) and Kobe MaGee (51.0%, 6th)
  • The Dragons lead the CAA and rank 23rd nationally in 3-point defense (28.5%). Drexel is also among the nation’s most disciplined teams with 14.3 fouls per game (21st in NCAA)
 
ELON PHOENIX (11-5; 2-1 CAA)
  • Sam Sherry posted his 5th double-double (14 pts/11 reb.) at W&M. He’s averaging 17.8 ppg and 11.2 rpg over his past five contests.
  • Nick Dorn has also shined over the last five games with 18.2 points and 15 made triples. Overall, he ranks 27th in Div. I with 3.2 3-pointers per game.
  • The Phoenix ranks 4th in Div. I in fouls (12.2 fpg), 4th in rebounds (43.7 rpg), 6th in rebound margin (+11.1) and 11th in FG defense (38.0%), as of Friday.
 
HAMPTON PIRATES (9-8; 2-3 CAA)
  • George Beale, Jr. (18 pts., 8-14 FG) and Kyrese Mullen (14 pts. / 15 rebs.) lifted the Pirates to an 83-77 win over Delaware on Saturday. Mullen joins UNCW’s Sean Moore as the only CAA players this season with 14+ points and 15+ boards in a game.
  • Hampton ranks 4th nationally in bench scoring (38.8 ppg).
  • The Pirates also sit second in the CAA and 20th in the nation with 13.9 offensive rebounds per game.
 
HOFSTRA PRIDE (10-7; 2-2 CAA)
  • Jean Aranguren (20 pts. / 5 3FGM) lifted Hofstra to a 66-63 victory over UNCW with an eventual GW three-point with 31 seconds remaining. Seventh-straight game in double figures, averaging 17.3 ppg.
  • The Pride paces the league defensively, holding the opposition to 37.2% shooting (8th in NCAA) and 64.4 ppg (29th).
  • Hofstra held Northeastern to 37 points on Jan. 4, which were the fewest allowed by the Pride in a game since 1989.
 
MONMOUTH HAWKS (4-13; 2-2 CAA)
  • Abdi Bashir, Jr. (22 pts. / 5 asts.) and Madison Durr (18 pts. / 6 asts.) helped Monmouth hand Charleston its first conference loss of the season with an 84-73 win on Saturday.
  • Bashir paces the conference with 22.8 ppg while shooting 44.7% from distance (17-38 3FG) in CAA action.
  • Monmouth has won 16 of its last 17 home games, including a program-record 15-game winning streak over that stretch.
 
N.C. A&T AGGIES (4-14; 0-5 CAA)
  • Ryan Forrest produced a pair of 25-point performances last week with 26 points (10-20 FG) against Delaware, followed by 27 points (11-27 FG) at William & Mary.
  • The Aggies lead the CAA and rank 17th in NCAA Div. I with 9.8 turnovers per game.
  • One of four NCAA Div. I teams to have two players averaging 18.0+ ppg with Forrest (19.1 ppg) and Landon Glasper (18.8 ppg), joining Kennesaw St., Rutgers and Saint Louis.
 
UNCW SEAHAWKS (12-5; 2-2 CAA)
  • Donovan Newby (30 pts. / 8 3FGM) became the third CAA player this season to score 30+ points with 8+ made 3-pointers in a game, joining UD’s John Camden and Monmouth’s Abdi Bashir Jr.
  • UNC Wilmington ranks 16th in Div. I averaging 41.1 rebounds and 17th with 18.3 made free throws per game. Paces CAA with a +9.5 scoring margin.
  • Newby is averaging 17.5 ppg and ranks second in league play with a 48.4% clip from distance (15-31 3FG)
 
NORTHEASTERN HUSKIES (10-7; 2-2 CAA)
  • Masai Troutman scored 14 of his team-high 22 points from the charity stripe in a 70-66 win over Stony Brook.
  • LA Pratt averaged 19.5 points, 5.0 boards and 2.0 steals to go with 3.0 3-pointers per game in road showdowns with Towson and Stony Brook last week.
  • King paces the conference with 38.6 minutes and sits second with 20.3 points per game in CAA play.
 
STONY BROOK SEAWOLVES (4-13; 0-4 CAA)
  • After pouring in 21 points against Drexel, CJ Luster II notched 22 points vs. Northeastern. It was his 12th double-digit outing and sixth with 20+ points.
  • Nick Woodard chipped in 16 points, six boards, two blocks and a pair of steals in reserve against the Huskies on Saturday.
  • Stony Brook ranks third in conference play with 33.5 defensive rebounds per game.
 
TOWSON TIGERS (8-9; 3-1 CAA)
  • Nendah Tarke (27 pts.) and Dylan Williamson (26 pts./ 7 asts.) each tied their career scoring highs and guided Towson to a 93-82 overtime victory at Drexel with a combined 19-for-29 shooting effort from the floor.
  • Towson is outrebounding its opposition by a +7.0 margin in four league games, good for second.
  • Tyler Tejada has logged double figures in scoring in each of the last six games, posting 19.3 ppg.
 
WILLIAM & MARY TRIBE (10-7; 4-0 CAA)
  • Two days after registering 19 points to topple Elon, Keller Boothby preserved the Tribe’s unblemished conference record with a 3-pointer at the buzzer to earn an 81-78 win over N.C. A&T.
  • Noah Collier added a 22-point effort on 9-of-11 shooting from the floor against the Aggies.
  • W&M ranks 6th in Div. I with 11.4 threes made per game, hitting at least nine treys 14 times, including an active eight-game streak.
