UNCW’S MONTGOMERY CAPTURES OSCAR ROBERTSON NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS BY USBWA

RICHMOND, Va. – Co-CAA Player of the Week Bo Montgomery of UNCW has been selected as one of five Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week honorees by the USBWA (U.S. Basketball Writers Association) on Tuesday. Montgomery becomes the second CAA player this season to earn national recognition, joining Monmouth’s Abdi Bashir Jr., who garnered the accolade on Nov. 19.
 
The Memphis, Tenn., product guided the Seahawks to a 3-0 week with crucial conference wins over previously unbeaten William & Mary and Charleston. Entering last week averaging 6.9 points per game, Montgomery shined across three wins with 16.7 points on 53.3 percent shooting (16-30 FG) from the floor with 5.3 boards per game.
 
The graduate student produced a career-high 24 points to go with seven rebounds and two swipes in the Seahawks’ 85-74 win last Monday, handing the Tribe their first conference loss of the season. Montgomery led UNCW into Charleston three days later and produced a team-best 18 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the floor with two treys and a 4-for-4 showing at the line to take an 85-83 victory on the road. Montgomery also chipped in five rebounds in the victory.
 
Joining Montgomery as National Player of the Week honorees were Sacred Heart’s Mekhi Conner, Minnesota’s Dawson Garcia, Portland’s Max MacKinnon and Houston’s Milos Uzan.
