CAA Swimming & Diving Weekly Awards - Jan. 28

RICHMOND, Va. (January 28, 2025) - Delaware junior Matvei Namakonov and William & Mary senior Ellie Scherer earned weekly swimming honors from the CAA, while Delaware senior Philip Townsend and Northeastern senior Erin Murphy received weekly swimming accolades from the conference.
CAA Men’s Swimmer of the Week
Matvei Namakonov, Jr., Delaware (Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan)
Namakonov posted two individual wins and was part of two pool records on winning relay teams as Delaware defeated Seton Hall last weekend. The junior posted a time of 20.14 in the 50 free, which is a top-10 performance in the conference, and claimed the 100 free with a time of 44.94. He was also a member of teams that set new pool records while capturing the 200 medley relay (1:29.24) and 200 free relay (1:22.30).
CAA Women’s Swimmer of the Week
Ellie Scherer, Sr., William & Mary (Baltimore, Md.)
Scherer recorded a pair of first-place individual finishes and added a relay victory in William & Mary’s 178-84 triumph over Georgetown. The senior captured the 100 breast with a time of 1:02.72, which ranks among the top 10 performances in the CAA, and took first in the 200 breast with a time of 2:18.06. She was also part of the Tribe’s first-place team in the 200 medley relay (1:41.70).
CAA Men’s Diver of the Week
Philip Townsend, Sr., Delaware (Townsend, Del.)
Townsend achieved new NCAA Zone cut scores while sweeping both boards in Delaware’s team victory over Seton Hall. The senior posted a score of 349.95 to capture the 3-meter competition and compiled a season-best score of 302.78 on the 1-meter board to claim the top spot.
CAA Women’s Diver of the Week
Erin Murphy, Sr., Northeastern (Duxbury, Mass.)
Murphy picked up victories on both boards as Northeastern topped Stony Brook on Senior Day. The senior started the meet with a win on the 3-meter board with a score of 330.15. She followed by capturing the 1-meter competition with a score of 307.20.
