Career scoring performances highlighted a fantastic opening night of CAA women’s basketball.
Stony Brook 72, Northeastern 51

A career-high 25 points from Janay Brantley lifted Stony Brook (6-6, 1-0) to its largest victory over a Division I opponent this season in a 72-51 win over Northeastern (1-9, 0-1).
Up 34-28 at the halfway mark, the Seawolves took over in the third quarter outscoring the Huskies 21-12. A jumper from Brantley with 2:32 on the clock moved Stony Brook’s lead to 13 before Dallysshya Moreno (10 points, nine rebounds) got it to 15. Northeastern got to within eight, however, Brantley scored seven-straight points for the Seawolves on a 7-2 run to secure Stony Brook’s sixth victory of the season. Abby Jegede had a season-high 25 points on 6-8 shooting from deep for Northeastern.
Drexel 65, Delaware 59
Box Score
All five starters scored nine or more points as Drexel (5-6, 1-0) defeated Delaware (3-8, 0-1) in a close 65-59 contest.
The Dragons led the entire contest; however, it wasn’t until midway through the fourth quarter that they could pull away. With one possession separating the two sides in the fourth, two three-pointers from Grace O’Neill and Cara McCormack gave Drexel an eight-point lead with four minutes remaining. The contest was scoreless for the next minute and a half before two free throws from Molly Lavin (3 points) sealed the deal for the Dragons. McCormack led Drexel with 13 points, followed by double-digit performances from Amaris Baker’s 12 and O’Neill’s 11, while Chloe Wilson had a 24-point, 10-rebound double-double for Delaware.
William & Mary 71, Hampton 52

A season-high 20 points from Jana Sallman sent William & Mary (4-8, 1-0) past Hampton (4-8, 0-1) 71-52.
The Tribe thrived in the third quarter, outscoring the Pirates 24-10 to all but secure the victory. William & Mary held Hampton scoreless for the final 2:37 of the third quarter, with Natalie Fox ( 5 points), Sallman, Kayla Rolph ( 13 points), and Sophia Legoullon (7 points) all knocking down shots to close out the quarter. Jasha Clinton had a team-high 15 points for Hampton.
Charleston 67, Towson 50

Lara Rohkohl’s fourth double-double of the season with 16 points and 13 rebounds helped Charleston (10-2, 1-0) overturn a 18-15 first-quarter deficit to defeat Towson (2-10, 0-1) 67-50.
Charleston had a dominant performance down low, with 34 of its 67 points coming in the paint. Down three heading into the second quarter, the Cougars went on a 17-4 run during the final seven and a half minutes of the frame. McKinley Brooks-Sumpter (16 points) got the run going for Charleston hitting a jumper with 6:14 on the clock, before Taryn Barbot (7 points, 10 rebounds) scored four of the Cougars’ last eight points in the second. Khady Leye (12 points, 11 rebounds) and Anasia Staton (11 points) combined for 23 of the Tigers 27 bench points.
UNCW 67, Campbell 61
Box Score
Ali Zelaya (19 points), Taylor Henderson (16 points, 9 rebounds), and Evan Miller (13 points) combined for 48 points in UNCW’s (7-7, 1-0) 67-61 win against Campbell (7-6, 0-1).
UNCW held a 36-29 advantage heading into the second half, before Campbell rallied to cut the lead down to four as the final quarter began. The lead was cut to as little as two with 6:22 left in the game, however Zelaya took over with five-straight points. UNCW took a team-high seven shots from deep in the fourth, knocking down 3, having help from its bench with 13 points. Gianni Boone led Campbell with 14 points.
N.C. A&T 57, Elon 40

Holding its opponents to single digits in two quarters, preseason favorites N.C. A&T (5-7, 1-0) bested Elon (6-6, 0-1) 57-40.
Allowing just 40 points, A&T set a season low in points allowed as the Aggies held the Phoenix to a combined 14 points in the first and last frame. Jordyn Dorsey flirted with a triple-double, scoring 19 points with eight rebounds and six assists, including a six-point flurry in the third quarter. Maleia Bracone (15 points) secured the Aggies’ fifth victory of the season after 10 third-quarter points gave A&T a seven-point lead entering the final frame. Maraja Pass had a team-high nine points for the Phoenix.
Hofstra 75, Monmouth 67
Box Score
Hofstra (6-6, 1-0) ended Monmouth’s (5-7, 0-1) five-game win streak off the back of a career night from LaNae’ Corbett in a 75-67 victory.
Corbett had her best performance in a Hofstra uniform, scoring 26 points on 12-18 shooting while not attempting a single three-pointer. The game shifted at the start of the second when Hofstra was down 22-16. With 0:59 left in the first half, Hofstra scored seven straight points to take the lead. Michaela Carter (7 points) and Emma Von Essen (9 points) both knocked down jumpers before Chloe Sterling (14 points) stole the show with a buzzer-beating three-pointer to close out the half. Damaris Rodriguez put on a strong scoring display scoring 23 points on 9-19 shooting for Monmouth.
