Jumana Martin split Defensive Player of the Week recognition on Monday.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tyne Ross, N.C. A&T
Sophomore | Outside Hitter | Cameron, N.C.
Ross had an outstanding weekend helping the Aggies go 2-0 against Elon, while increasing the team’s winning streak to five straight matches. Ross averaged 5.38 kills and 2.0 digs in eight sets played. In A&T's three-set win over the Phoenix on Saturday, the outside hitter posted 20 kills and a career-best .485 hitting percentage to go along with six digs and two total blocks. In the third set alone, the Cameron, N.C., native posted seven kills, made only one attack error and finished the set with a .545 hitting percentage. In A&T's five-set win on Friday, she recorded 23 kills and 10 digs. It marked her third double-double in her last four matches.
CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Hailey Heytvelt, Campbell
Sophomore | Middle Blocker | North Vancouver, Wash.
Heytvelt controlled the net at Stony Brook, coming up with 13 blocks during the weekend sweep. The sophomore middle blocker had seven blocks in Friday's five-set win, one shy of her career high. She followed up with six blocks in four sets Saturday. Her big defensive weekend pushed her over 1.00 blocks per set on the season at 1.02, good for fourth now in the CAA. Heytvelt was just as good on offense, with 16 kills on .552 hitting for the weekend, going without an error on 29 swings across the two matches.
CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jumana Martin, Charleston
Freshman | Libero | Fort Mill, S.C.
Martin paced the league with 6.57 digs per set as Charleston won both matches against UNCW. The freshman libero had 26 digs and six assists across the four sets in Friday’s win. The Fort Mill, S.C., native followed up with another strong defensive effort on the Cougar backline, digging out 20 balls and dishing out four assists in the straight set sweep. Martin sits atop the conference with 5.16 digs per set and 253 digs in 12 CAA matches.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Rookie of the Week
Zariah Winton, N.C. A&T
Freshman | Outside Hitter | Crete, Ind.
Winton had her best CAA weekend series of her young career, averaging 4.13 kills in eight sets played over the weekend at Elon. The Aggies went 2-0 last week, powered by a .338 hitting percentage. In A&T's five-set win on Friday, Winton ended the evening with 19 kills, five digs and a service ace, while recording a .359 hitting percentage. Winton followed that performance with 14 kills, hitting .308 in the three-set win that gave A&T its fifth straight win.
